How to Make Odor-Free Stir-Fried Sea Mustard Stems: A Simple Side Dish Recipe
My husband isn’t a fan of dishes with a fishy smell, so the key point for this stir-fried sea mustard stems recipe is to make it without any unpleasant odor! Enjoy this simple yet delicious side dish that will awaken your appetite.
Main Ingredients- 1 pack Sea Mustard Stems (approx. 200g)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 0.5 Tbsp Soup Soy Sauce (adjust to taste)
- 0.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1/4 Onion (thinly sliced)
- Small amount of Carrot (thinly sliced)
- Pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the ingredients: 1 pack of sea mustard stems, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, 0.5 tablespoon of soup soy sauce, 0.5 tablespoon of sesame oil, 1/4 onion thinly sliced, a small amount of carrot thinly sliced, and a pinch of toasted sesame seeds for garnish. Prepping all ingredients beforehand makes the cooking process much smoother.
Step 2
Sea mustard stems bought from the store are usually preserved in salt. Rinse them thoroughly under running cold water 3-4 times to remove the saltiness. Washing them meticulously will reduce the saltiness and also minimize any potential fishy odor.
Step 3
After rinsing, soak the sea mustard stems in cold water for about 20 minutes. Soaking them for a longer period is very effective in removing any remaining fishy smell. It’s even better if you change the water once during soaking.
Step 4
While the sea mustard stems are soaking, thinly slice the prepared onion and carrot. If you slice them too thick, they might take longer to cook, so aim for a moderate thickness.
Step 5
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. Add the minced garlic and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant. This step creates a garlic-infused oil, adding more depth of flavor.
Step 6
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the thinly sliced onion and carrot. Stir-fry them together for about 1 minute. They are ready when the onion starts to turn translucent.
Step 7
Add the sea mustard stems, squeezing out any excess water, and stir-fry for another minute. Then, pour in 0.5 tablespoon of soup soy sauce and stir-fry everything well for about 3 minutes. Feel free to adjust the amount of soy sauce according to your preference.
Step 8
Finally, add 0.5 tablespoon of sesame oil and the toasted sesame seeds. Stir-fry quickly for about 30 seconds to finish. If you find the seasoning a bit light, you can add a tiny pinch of salt to adjust the taste perfectly!
Step 9
Your delicious, odor-free stir-fried sea mustard stems are now ready! Create a delightful addition to your meal with this simple yet satisfying side dish.
