Ingredients- 1/2 block Firm Tofu (approx. 150-200g)
- 1/2 Onion (medium size)
- Pinch of Salt
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 50g Perilla Seeds (ground)
- 50g Sesame Seeds (ground)
- 2 Eggs
- 70g All-Purpose Flour
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 cm thick. Pat the tofu slices gently with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This step helps ensure the tofu fries up crispy and holds its shape.
Step 2
Peel and wash the onion, then slice it thinly into julienne strips. Soak the julienned onion in cold water for about 5 minutes to mellow its sharpness and enhance its crispiness. Drain thoroughly before use.
Step 3
Lightly season the drained tofu slices with salt and pepper on both sides. Be careful not to over-salt. This seasoning enhances the tofu’s natural flavor.

In a bowl, crack the eggs and whisk them well. Add the ground perilla seeds to the egg mixture and stir until combined. (Tip: For an even richer nutty flavor, you can combine ground perilla and sesame seeds.)
Step 5
Dredge each tofu slice first in the flour, ensuring an even coating. Shake off any excess flour. Then, dip the floured tofu into the egg and perilla seed mixture, coating it completely.
Step 6
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the coated tofu slices into the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Ensure the heat is not too high to prevent burning before the inside is cooked through.
Step 7
Transfer the fried tofu to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Arrange the julienned onions on a serving plate and top with the crispy tofu. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as soy sauce or chili sauce, if desired.
