  • Category : Side dish
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 10 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 180g Tofu (firm pan-frying tofu works best)
  • 2 Tbsp Perilla Oil (using perilla oil instead of sesame oil enhances the flavor significantly)

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce (adjust if using soup soy sauce)
  • 2 Tbsp Plum Extract (adds sweetness and shine)
  • 1 Tbsp Ground Perilla Seeds (use generously for a full nutty flavor)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, it’s important to remove excess water from the tofu. Wrap the 180g of tofu in paper towels or microwave it for about 1 minute to dry out some moisture. This helps the tofu maintain its shape and prevents it from breaking apart during cooking. Cut the drained tofu into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm).

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, combine all seasoning ingredients except for the ground perilla seeds: 1 tsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, and 2 Tbsp plum extract. Add the 2 Tbsp of perilla oil and mix well. Once the seasonings are well combined, heat a pan over low heat, add the seasoned mixture, and stir-fry for about 30 seconds to release the aromas. This step deepens the flavor of the seasoning.

Step 2

Step 3

Add the prepared tofu to the pan and gently toss to coat it evenly with the seasoning. Once the tofu is coated, add 1 Tbsp of ground perilla seeds, the key to its nutty taste. Continue to cook over low heat for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Step 3

Step 4

Continue stir-frying for about 30 more seconds until the ground perilla seeds are well incorporated with the tofu. Stir-frying briefly right before turning off the heat allows the perilla seeds to release their subtle nutty flavor without burning, thanks to the residual heat. After turning off the heat, continue stirring gently for another 30 seconds using the pan’s residual heat. This ensures the seasoning thoroughly coats the tofu, resulting in a delicious pan-fried tofu dish. Serve hot over rice and enjoy!
