Main Ingredients- 1 head of fresh broccoli
- 12 shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 5 dried red chilies (peperoncino), or to taste
- Pinch of black pepper (freshly ground recommended)
- Salt to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the broccoli thoroughly and cut it into bite-sized florets. If using frozen shrimp, thaw them by rinsing under cold water or letting them sit at room temperature. Peel and devein the shrimp.
Step 2
Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Add the broccoli florets to the boiling water and blanch for about 30 seconds. Then, add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink and are cooked through, approximately 1 minute. Be careful not to overcook them, as this can make them rubbery.
Step 3
Quickly remove the blanched broccoli and shrimp from the water and drain them thoroughly in a colander. Draining well ensures the stir-fry won’t be watery and will have a better texture and flavor.
Step 4
Now, let’s start stir-frying. Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of minced garlic. Stir the garlic gently, ensuring it doesn’t burn, until it becomes fragrant. This step is key to infusing the oil with a wonderful garlic aroma.
Step 5
Once the garlic is fragrant, crumble the dried red chilies (peperoncino) into the pan and stir-fry them with the garlic. This will release their spicy flavor into the oil, adding a lovely kick to the dish. Feel free to add more chilies if you prefer it spicier.
Step 6
When the garlic and chili aroma fills the air, add the drained shrimp and broccoli to the pan. Increase the heat to high and stir-fry quickly for about 1-2 minutes, ensuring everything is well combined with the garlic and chili oil. Avoid overcooking the broccoli, as it can lose its vibrant color and become mushy.
Step 7
Finally, taste the stir-fry and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to your preference. A pinch of salt will enhance the overall flavors. Once seasoned, your delicious Broccoli Shrimp Stir-Fry is ready to serve!
