Main Ingredients- 200g ground beef
- A small amount of zucchini, finely diced
- A small amount of carrot, finely diced
- A small amount of onion, finely diced
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gently pat the ground beef dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture and blood. In a bowl, combine the beef with the seasoning ingredients: 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp cooking wine, 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix gently until well combined and let it marinate.
Step 2
You can choose vegetables based on what you have on hand, but avoid using too much as excess moisture can make the rice balls soggy. It’s best to keep the variety simple and the quantity moderate. This recipe uses finely diced zucchini, carrot, and onion.
Step 3
Finely dice the prepared zucchini, carrot, and onion into small cubes. Alternatively, you can use a food processor or chopper for a quick and uniform dice. Uniformly diced vegetables ensure a pleasant texture when cooked.
Step 4
Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the marinated ground beef and begin to stir-fry. Use chopsticks or a spoon to break up any clumps as you cook.
Step 5
Once the beef is almost fully cooked, add the finely diced vegetables to the pan. Continue to stir-fry them together, allowing the vegetables to cook in the rendered beef fat for added flavor.
Step 6
Increase the heat to medium-high and stir-fry briskly, being careful not to burn the ingredients. If any liquid is released from the vegetables, increase the heat further to evaporate the moisture quickly. Excess moisture can cause the rice balls to fall apart.
Step 7
Season the cooked beef and vegetable mixture with salt to taste. For an extra boost of umami flavor, you can add 1 tablespoon of fish sauce (optional).
Step 8
Once all the moisture has evaporated and the mixture is dry, turn off the heat. Transfer the cooked mixture to a bowl of warm rice. Add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and mix thoroughly until the rice and the beef-vegetable mixture are well combined and the rice appears slightly glossy.
Step 9
Finally, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds for added nuttiness and a dash of black pepper to eliminate any lingering odors. Allow the rice mixture to cool slightly before handling, as it can be hot. Once cool enough to touch, shape the mixture into small, round balls. Enjoy your delicious homemade rice balls!
