Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Hello everyone! Today, I’ve prepared a Kongnamulbap recipe that a family of four can enjoy. When cooking the rice, a 1:1 ratio of rice to water will give you perfectly chewy rice. I’m adding ground beef to enhance the flavor, as it makes the dish even more appealing to kids. If you don’t have beef, it’s still delicious, but beef adds wonderful richness. If your children are sensitive to spice, you can omit the gochugaru from the seasoning sauce. Plum extract is a great substitute for sugar if you have it; I used sugar this time as I didn’t have any on hand.
Step 2
First, wash the rice thoroughly under running water. It’s important to wash gently to avoid breaking the grains. After rinsing, add 2 cups of water to the rice, preparing it for cooking.
Step 3
Rinse the bean sprouts several times in cold water until clean. If you have time, you can trim off any roots or blemishes for a cleaner dish. However, since I’m making this quickly after work, I’ll use them as they are!
Step 4
Spread the cleaned bean sprouts evenly over the washed rice in the rice cooker. Then, press the ‘Cook’ button to start cooking the rice. The fresh aroma of the bean sprouts will infuse the rice, making it incredibly delicious.
Step 5
While the rice is cooking, let’s prepare the marinated ground beef. In a bowl, combine the ground beef with 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 1/2 Tbsp sugar, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well with your hands until evenly coated. Let the beef marinate for about 10 to 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 6
While the beef is marinating, let’s make the flavorful seasoning sauce for the Kongnamulbap. In a small bowl, combine 3 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp plum extract or sugar, and 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil. Mix them together. Then, add chopped scallions and gochugaru according to your preference. I added about 1/2 Tbsp of gochugaru for a touch of spiciness. Mix well, and your delicious seasoning sauce is ready!
Step 7
Now, heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat and add the marinated ground beef. Stir-fry until it’s cooked through and fragrant. The aroma of the beef cooking is a sign that the rice is almost done! Even my dog gets excited by this smell. Be careful not to burn it while frying until it’s crumbly and delicious.
Step 8
The rice is finally ready! As soon as I open the rice cooker, the fresh and savory scent of bean sprouts fills the air. I can’t wait to mix it with the tasty seasoning sauce.
Step 9
Serve the finished Kongnamulbap in a bowl. Mix the rice and bean sprouts thoroughly, then top generously with the delicious stir-fried ground beef. And just like that, your flavorful Kongnamulbap is complete! Enjoy this simple yet nutritious home-cooked meal.
