Ingredients

  • 110g steamed sweet pumpkin (mashed)
  • 5g roasted sesame seeds
  • 2 fresh eggs
  • 20g cleaned chives
  • 45g fine rice flour
  • 1g baking powder
  • 60g steamed sweet pumpkin, diced (for decoration and texture)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the sweet pumpkin thoroughly. Soak it in water with a vegetable and fruit wash for about 5 minutes, then rinse under running water. Cut the pumpkin into four pieces, scoop out the seeds with a spoon, and discard them.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the prepared sweet pumpkin in a steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes until completely soft. It’s important that the pumpkin is fully cooked and tender. Let the steamed pumpkin cool slightly.

Step 2

Step 3

In a blender, combine the roasted sesame seeds, 110g of the steamed sweet pumpkin, and 2 fresh eggs. Blend until smooth and well combined, ensuring there are no lumps.

Step 3

Step 4

When blending, continue until you achieve a frothy texture, similar to the photo. This will help make the steamed buns extra fluffy and light. Blend for about 1-2 minutes.

Step 4

Step 5

Wash the fresh chives thoroughly after trimming any wilted parts. Gently pat them dry with a kitchen towel. Finely mince the chives. Chopping them finely will allow their fresh flavor to infuse well into the buns.

Step 5

Step 6

Dice the remaining 60g of steamed sweet pumpkin into small, bite-sized pieces. This adds extra sweetness and a pleasant texture for babies to chew on.

Step 6

Step 7

To the blended pumpkin mixture in the blender, add the fine rice flour and baking powder (sifted for better distribution). Also, add the minced chives and the diced steamed pumpkin.

Step 7

Step 8

Using a spatula, gently mix all the ingredients together to form a batter. Avoid overmixing; just combine until the dry ingredients are incorporated. This will create a smooth batter.

Step 8

Step 9

Spoon the batter into muffin tins or any oven-safe or steamer-friendly molds. Fill each mold only about 90% full, as the buns will rise during cooking.

Step 9

Step 10

If using an oven, preheat it to 170°C (340°F). Bake for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 10

Step 11

If using a steamer, bring the water to a boil. Place the filled molds in the steamer and steam for about 20 minutes. Ensure the lid is tightly closed to prevent steam from escaping.

Step 11

Step 12

Both oven-baked and steamed buns will be fluffy and moist. However, the steamed version tends to retain more moisture, resulting in an even softer and more tender texture. For younger babies, steaming is highly recommended.

Step 12

Step 13

These chive and sweet pumpkin steamed buns are a perfect healthy and delicious snack for babies. They are also so tasty and nutritious that parents can enjoy them too, making them a wonderful treat for the whole family to share!
