Nourishing Chicken Soup (Dak Gomtang) for Babies
Kid-Friendly Dak Gomtang Recipe: A Simple and Delicious Nourishing Soup Made with Chicken for Stir-Fry
My children love chicken dishes, so we often make them at home, not just on special occasions like ‘Boknal’ (dog days of summer). Having soup makes it easier for kids to eat rice, and my youngest’s absolute favorite is Dak Gomtang! It’s excellent for boosting immunity, making it a wonderful nourishing meal for babies. While shredding the chicken can be a bit of work, seeing how much the children enjoy it makes all the effort melt away. A pot of homemade Dak Gomtang provides a hearty and satisfying meal. You can create a delicious broth with just green onions, onions, garlic, and salt, but this time I added chicken powder for an extra layer of flavor. It tasted remarkably close to that of a professional Dak Gomtang restaurant, which I was very pleased with! Making a pot of Dak Gomtang for your baby is a great way to provide them with a nutritious meal.
Main Ingredients- 1kg chicken (for stir-fry)
- 2L water
- 1/2 stalk green onion (for broth)
- 1/2 onion (for broth)
- A little green onion (for garnish, thinly sliced)
Seasoning & Flavoring- 1/2 Tbsp chicken powder
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp chicken powder
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the chicken intended for stir-fry under running water, rubbing gently to clean it. Place the cleaned chicken, 2L of water, 1/2 stalk of green onion for broth, and 1/2 onion for broth into a pot.
Step 2
Turn the heat to high and bring to a boil with the lid off. Once the broth is rapidly boiling, skim off any impurities that float to the surface periodically. Continue boiling for 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 3
To the broth that has been boiling for 5 to 10 minutes, add 1/2 Tbsp of chicken powder and 2 Tbsp of minced garlic. Stir well to dissolve. π This step enhances the depth of the broth.
Step 4
After seasoning, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let the chicken simmer for a full 40 minutes. This ensures the chicken becomes tender and the broth is richly flavored.
Step 5
After simmering for 40 to 50 minutes, remove and discard the green onion and onion that were added for the broth. This step helps create a clean-tasting broth.
Step 6
Now it’s time to season with salt. Add 1 Tbsp of salt first and taste. Adjust the salt according to your family’s preference. If it’s too bland, gradually add more salt until it’s just right. π
Step 7
Remove the well-cooked chicken from the pot and let it cool slightly. Once it’s cool enough to handle, shred the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Remove the bones and keep only the meat.
Step 8
In a serving bowl, add a portion of rice, then top with the shredded chicken and a generous ladleful of the milky Dak Gomtang broth. Finish with a sprinkle of black pepper and some sliced green onion for garnish. Your delicious Dak Gomtang, made with chicken for stir-fry, is now complete! π
