Nostalgic Street Toast: A Simple Recipe
Easy Street Toast Recipe for Your Children’s Day Picnic Lunchbox!
Perfect for a quick breakfast or a delightful picnic lunch, this street toast is a simple yet satisfying dish. Enjoy the classic taste of sweet jam, fluffy egg, and crisp vegetables sandwiched between toasted bread.
Main Ingredients- 4 slices of bread
- 2 fresh eggs
- 2 leaves of crisp cabbage
- 1/2 sweet carrot
- 1/2 aromatic onion
- 2 Tbsp sweet strawberry jam
- A pinch of salt to enhance flavor
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil for frying
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the filling. Finely shred the cabbage leaves. Then, finely julienne the carrot and onion. Using a mandoline slicer can help achieve thin, uniform shreds.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, carrot, and onion. Crack in 2 fresh eggs. Add a pinch of salt to balance the flavors. Whisk everything together thoroughly with chopsticks or a whisk until well combined. It’s important for the vegetables to be evenly coated with the egg mixture.
Step 3
Now, let’s cook the egg mixture. Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Ladle portions of the egg and vegetable mixture into the pan, spreading it thinly to form round patties. Cook until golden brown and firm on both sides. Keeping the patties relatively thin will make them easier to assemble in the sandwich.
Step 4
Prepare the bread. Lightly toast 4 slices of bread in a toaster or on a pan until they are warm and slightly crispy. Spread a generous layer of sweet strawberry jam on one side of each toasted slice. This adds a delightful sweetness that kids especially love.
Step 5
The final step! Carefully place one of the cooked egg patties onto the jam-covered side of a toasted bread slice. Then, top it with another toasted bread slice to complete the street toast. Serve immediately while warm for the best taste!
