Nostalgic Salad Bread

Homemade Nostalgic Flavor! Easy and Delicious Salad Bread Recipe with Cabbage and Morning Rolls

I originally went to buy sliced bread but it was sold out, so I bought morning rolls instead and decided to make nostalgic salad bread with them! It tastes just like the ones my mom used to make when I was little! A simple and delicious snack made with ingredients you likely have at home.

Main Ingredients
  • 4 Morning Rolls
  • 1/8 Cabbage
  • 3 slices Ham
  • 2 Imitation Crab Sticks (Kani Kama or similar)
  • 1/2 Cucumber

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the ingredients for the salad. Shred the imitation crab sticks with your hands. Finely julienne the cabbage, ham slices, and cucumber. (Tip: If you have carrots or canned corn, you can add them for a more colorful and abundant salad. Some people salt the cabbage and squeeze out the water for extra crunch, but it’s delicious even without this step for a quicker preparation!)

Step 2

In a bowl, combine the julienned cabbage, ham, imitation crab, and cucumber. Add the mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet condensed milk (or your preferred sweetener like sugar, oligosaccharide, or honey), salt, and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly until well combined. The sweet condensed milk adds a lovely sweetness and creaminess. Don’t be shy with the cabbage – it adds a wonderful crispness! (Delicious food is calorie-free!)

Step 3

Now, prepare the morning rolls. Using a knife, carefully slice each morning roll in half, but make sure not to cut all the way through. Leave one edge connected, creating a ‘clam’ shape. This will help hold the salad filling inside neatly. (Tip: You can spread a thin layer of strawberry jam on the inside of the bread before adding the salad for an extra touch of sweetness. Feel free to skip this if you prefer!)

Step 4

Finally, generously stuff the prepared salad filling into the sliced morning rolls. Your delicious, nostalgic salad bread is now ready! You can sprinkle some chopped parsley on top for garnish if desired.
