A Taste of Nostalgia: Old-Fashioned Sausage Fritters
These old-fashioned sausage fritters, a beloved treat from the past, are wonderfully delicious when pan-fried and enjoyed warm. It’s a simple recipe that brings back fond memories and is perfect for sharing.
Main Ingredients- 2 large eggs
- A small bunch of scallions or green onions, finely chopped
- 1/2 old-fashioned sausage
Seasoning & Other- 2 pinches of salt for stir-frying
- Canola oil or cooking oil, for frying
- 2 pinches of salt for stir-frying
- Canola oil or cooking oil, for frying
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Slice the old-fashioned sausage diagonally into bite-sized pieces, about 1cm thick. Slicing them this way increases the surface area for frying, resulting in a crispier texture.
Step 2
In a bowl, crack the 2 large eggs. Add the finely chopped scallions and 2 pinches of salt for stir-frying. Whisk everything together until well combined, creating an egg batter. The scallions help to neutralize any eggy smell and add a pleasant aroma.
Step 3
Dip the sliced sausage pieces into the prepared egg batter, ensuring each piece is fully coated. A good coating of egg batter will help the fritters hold their shape and taste wonderfully savory when cooked.
Step 4
Heat a non-stick pan over low heat and add a generous amount of canola oil. Carefully place the egg-coated sausage slices into the hot oil, one by one. It’s crucial to maintain low heat to prevent the outside from burning before the inside is cooked through.
Step 5
Once one side is golden brown and crispy, flip the sausage fritters to cook the other side until evenly browned. Continue frying until all pieces are a beautiful golden-brown color. Then, arrange the cooked fritters nicely on a serving plate.
Step 6
These fritters are best enjoyed immediately while they are warm and freshly cooked. For an enhanced flavor experience, serve them with ketchup or mustard. Enjoy these delightful, memory-evoking old-fashioned sausage fritters!
