Nostalgic Mom’s Taste! Deliciously Tangy and Sweet Seaweed Salad Recipe
Deliciously Tangy and Sweet Seaweed Salad
Recreate the exact taste your mother used to make! This tangy and sweet seaweed salad is perfect for stimulating your appetite when it’s low. Enjoy its simple yet profound savory flavor.
Main Ingredients- Dried seaweed, a small amount (It expands a lot when rehydrated, so prepare an appropriate amount)
- 1/2 onion
Seasoning Ingredients- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the dried seaweed. Dried seaweed expands significantly when rehydrated, so take a moderate amount and soak it in cold water for about 30 minutes to 1 hour until fully softened. Soaking helps to tenderize the seaweed and remove any impurities.
Step 2
Rinse the rehydrated seaweed thoroughly under cold running water. Once clean, gently squeeze out excess water. Then, use scissors to cut the seaweed into bite-sized pieces. The tougher stem parts can be cut smaller.
Step 3
To prepare the seasoning, finely mince 2 cloves of garlic. Minced garlic adds depth of flavor and helps to eliminate any unpleasant odors.
Step 4
Now, let’s make the delicious seasoning sauce. In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp of gochujang, 2 Tbsp of sugar, 5 Tbsp of vinegar, and the minced garlic from the previous step. Mix them well. This is a golden ratio for a sweet and tangy flavor, but feel free to adjust the sugar or vinegar to your preference after tasting.
Step 5
Thinly slice half an onion into strips. Place the sliced onion in a large bowl along with the cleaned and cut seaweed. The crisp texture of the onion will complement the soft seaweed for an even tastier dish.
Step 6
Pour the prepared delicious seasoning sauce over the sliced onion and seaweed in the bowl.
Step 7
Gently mix everything together with your hands. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the seaweed and onion. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the seaweed mushy. Mix gently.
Step 8
Voila! Your nostalgic and delicious seaweed salad is ready. It’s great to eat immediately, but chilling it in the refrigerator for a bit will make it even more refreshing and tasty. If you happen to have any leftover raw fish, mixing it in with this salad makes for a unique and delightful treat!
