  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Deep-fry
  • Servings : 2 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1 packet of instant ramen (any brand works)
  • Cooking oil, enough to coat the ramen
  • 2 sticks of rock sugar (or 3-4 Tbsp granulated sugar)

Optional Ingredients (For Extra Flavor)

  • 1 egg (for a softer coating, like French toast)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Carefully separate the two layers of the ramen noodles from the packet. This is a crucial step for achieving the perfect crispiness and bite of your Ramyeon Ttang. Handle the noodles gently to prevent them from breaking too much.

Step 1

Step 2

Break the separated ramen noodles into bite-sized pieces, approximately 3-4 cm long. This makes them easy to eat. Avoid breaking them too finely, as they might clump together or become too crumbly later.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a frying pan over low heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Maintaining low heat is key to preventing the ramen from burning and ensuring it turns golden brown and crispy. Swirl the pan to ensure the oil coats the entire surface.

Step 3

Step 4

Add the broken ramen pieces to the pan and gently stir them with chopsticks or a spatula. Once the ramen is coated in oil and starts to soften slightly, add the crushed rock sugar sticks (or granulated sugar). The amount of sugar can be adjusted to your preference. (I used Baeksul rock sugar, but feel free to use what you have on hand.)

Step 4

Step 5

As the sugar melts and begins to coat the ramen, it’s time for some skillful stirring! Continuously stir gently or swirl the pan to ensure the ramen is evenly coated and doesn’t burn. Cook until the noodles turn a beautiful golden brown and you hear a satisfying crisp sound – it’s almost ready!

Step 5

Step 6

This step is optional but adds a delightful twist. After stir-frying the ramen, you can transfer it to a bowl, dip it lightly in a beaten egg, and then briefly stir-fry it again over low heat. This creates a texture similar to French toast – crispy on the outside, slightly soft on the inside. (If you choose to coat with egg, you can also sprinkle the sugar afterwards.)

Step 6

Step 7

Once done, transfer the Ramyeon Ttang to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil. Let it cool slightly. While delicious warm, it becomes even crispier as it cools. Enjoy it by the spoonful or with chopsticks! This nostalgic Ramyeon Ttang is a perfect snack for kids or a delightful accompaniment to a cold drink. Enjoy!
