Recipe Info

  • Category : Main dish
  • Ingredient Category : Processed foods
  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Stir-fry
  • Servings : 4 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 30 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Ingredients

  • 20 Vienna sausages
  • 1/4 Onion
  • 1/2 Bell pepper (any color)
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking oil
  • 1 Tbsp Water
  • 2 Tbsp Ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp Chili sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking wine (Mirin or similar)
  • A small handful of chives or green onions

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Lightly score the Vienna sausages 3-4 times with a knife. This helps the sauce to penetrate better and makes them look appealing. Core and chop the bell pepper into bite-sized pieces. Peel and thinly slice the onion, then cut the slices in half so they are easier to stir-fry.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and stir-fry until they become transparent. This process brings out the natural sweetness of the onions.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the onions start to turn transparent, add the scored Vienna sausages to the pan.

Step 3

Step 4

Increase the heat to high and stir-fry the sausages and onions together. The sausages will begin to brown, and the onion flavors will meld, enhancing the overall taste.

Step 4

Step 5

When the sausages are cooked to your liking, reduce the heat to low and add 1 tablespoon of water. This step helps to keep the sausages moist and prevents the sauce from burning.

Step 5

Step 6

While it can be a bit more work, briefly blanching the sausages in boiling water beforehand results in a cleaner taste with less oil. However, if you’re short on time, adding a tablespoon of water to the pan as we’re doing here is an excellent shortcut to a delicious result.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, add the chopped bell pepper to the pan. Stir-fry briefly until the pepper is slightly tender but still retains some crispness. The key is to maintain its vibrant color and crunchy texture.

Step 7

Step 8

Now, let’s make the delicious sauce! In a small bowl, add 2 tablespoons of ketchup.

Step 8

Step 9

Add 2 tablespoons of chili sauce to the ketchup for a sweet and spicy kick.

Step 9

Step 10

Mix the ketchup and chili sauce well to create the sauce base.

Step 10

Step 11

If you prefer a little extra heat, you can add 1 teaspoon of chili flakes (optional).

Step 11

Step 12

Finally, add 1 tablespoon of cooking wine (like Mirin) to enhance the flavor and balance the sweetness. Stir everything together until well combined.

Step 12

Step 13

Pour the prepared ketchup sauce over the stir-fried sausages and vegetables in the pan.

Step 13

Step 14

Stir well over medium heat, ensuring the sauce coats all the ingredients evenly. Continue to stir-fry briefly, being careful not to let the sauce reduce too much.

Step 14

Step 15

For a final touch of freshness and color, add the chopped chives or green onions and gently toss to combine.

Step 15

Step 16

Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds if desired, and your delicious Sausage and Vegetable Stir-Fry is ready! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice.
