Vin Chaud literally translates to ‘hot wine’ in French. This delightful beverage warms both body and soul with its fragrant blend of fruits and spices, perfect for cold winter evenings. Create a special winter night with a glass of aromatic Vin Chaud.
Main Ingredients- 2 fresh lemons
- 1 crisp apple
- 1 fragrant orange
- 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine
- 5-10 whole cloves
- 5-10 whole black peppercorns
- 2 whole cinnamon sticks
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the lemons, apple, and orange thoroughly. Peel them thinly and then remove any seeds. Slice them into approximately 0.5cm thick rounds for a pleasing presentation. Slicing them thinly helps to extract the most flavor from the fruits.
Step 2
Place the prepared lemon, apple, and orange slices into a pot. Pour in one 750ml bottle of red wine, ensuring the fruit is well submerged. Using a pot with enough depth is recommended to allow the fruit’s essence to infuse into the wine properly.
Step 3
Now it’s time to add the spices that will enhance the Vin Chaud’s aroma. Carefully add 5-10 whole cloves, 5-10 whole black peppercorns, and 2 whole cinnamon sticks to the pot. You can adjust the quantity of spices according to your personal preference.
Step 4
Place the pot with all the ingredients on the stove and begin to heat. Start with high heat, and once the wine begins to simmer, reduce the heat to medium or low. Let it simmer gently until the wine has reduced by about half. This slow simmering allows the flavors and aromas of the ingredients to deepen while reducing the alcohol content. Be careful not to over-simmer, as this can diminish the wine’s delicate flavors.
