- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
- Pinch of Salt
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Mongolian Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Wine (Sake or Mirin)
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1/2 cup Water (approx. 100ml)
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
- 3 Tbsp Ketchup
- 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Wine (Sake or Mirin)
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1/2 cup Water (approx. 100ml)
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gently pat the beef dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. This step is crucial for a tender steak with no gamey odor. Season both sides of the beef generously with 1 Tbsp olive oil, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper. Let it marinate for about 20 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the special Mongolian sauce that will give this steak its signature flavor. In a bowl, combine 3 Tbsp ketchup, 1 tsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp cooking wine (or mirin), 2 Tbsp sugar, 2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 cup water (approx. 100ml), and 1 Tbsp cornstarch. Whisk everything together thoroughly with a whisk or spoon until smooth and no lumps remain. Ensuring the cornstarch is well dissolved prevents clumping later.
Step 3
Prepare the vegetables to accompany the steak. Wash the cherry tomatoes and remove the stems, then halve them. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Blanch the broccoli in boiling water with a pinch of salt for about 1 minute, then rinse under cold water and drain. (Alternatively, you can lightly sauté the broccoli florets in a pan with 1 Tbsp olive oil until tender-crisp. Season lightly with salt and pepper for extra flavor.)
Step 4
It’s time to cook the steak! Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp butter and 1 Tbsp olive oil. Place the marinated beef into the hot pan. Cook the steak to your desired doneness. For medium-rare, about 2-3 minutes per side; for medium, 3-4 minutes per side. Avoid flipping the steak too often, as this helps to lock in the juices. Once cooked, let the steak rest for about 5 minutes to redistribute the juices before slicing it into your preferred serving size.
Step 5
We’ll use the same pan you cooked the steak in to thicken the sauce. The leftover beef drippings in the pan will add wonderful depth of flavor to the sauce. Pour the prepared Mongolian sauce into the pan and bring it to a simmer over medium-low heat, stirring continuously. As the sauce heats, it will start to thicken thanks to the cornstarch. Keep stirring to prevent it from burning.
Step 6
Once the sauce has thickened beautifully, add the sliced steak back into the pan. Toss gently to coat the steak evenly with the sauce. Cook for just a minute or so until the sauce coats the meat, then immediately remove from heat to prevent the steak from overcooking and becoming tough.
Step 7
Finally, it’s time for plating! Arrange the blanched broccoli florets and halved cherry tomatoes attractively around the edge of your serving plate. Place the delicious Mongolian steak in the center. Your festive Christmas home party dish is now complete! Enjoy this delightful Mongolian Steak and have a wonderful, warm Christmas with your loved ones! ♥
