Patty Ingredients

  • 160g ground pork
  • 1 Tbsp sautéed onion (finely minced and lightly fried)
  • 1 Tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 Tbsp tonkatsu sauce
  • Pinch of black pepper

Additional Ingredients

  • 2 morning buns
  • 2 Tbsp salad dressing (e.g., yogurt dressing, or a mix of ketchup and mayonnaise, to taste)
  • 1/2 handful shredded cabbage
  • 3 cherry tomatoes (thinly sliced)
  • 2 lettuce leaves (e.g., chicory)
  • 2 Tbsp tonkatsu sauce (for topping the patties)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the sautéed onion to enhance the flavor of your burger patties. Finely mince the onion, add a little salt, and sauté it gently in a lightly oiled pan over low heat until translucent. Be careful not to burn it. Once cooked, let it cool completely.

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, combine the cooled sautéed onion, breadcrumbs, 1 Tbsp of tonkatsu sauce, the ground pork, and a pinch of black pepper. These ingredients will form the excellent base for your patties.

Step 2

Step 3

Knead the mixture with your hands until well combined and it forms a cohesive dough. Kneading thoroughly will ensure the patties hold their shape and don’t fall apart during cooking. I made two mini patties from this mixture, but you can adjust the size as you prefer.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the formed patties into the preheated pan and begin to cook.

Step 4

Step 5

If your patties are thick, cook one side until golden brown, then add 1-2 tablespoons of water and immediately cover the pan with a lid. This steaming method helps to cook the patties through evenly, making them extra tender and delicious. Reduce the heat to low and ensure they are cooked completely.

Step 5

Step 6

Once both sides are nicely browned and cooked through, your juicy homemade patties are ready! Set them aside on a plate for a moment.

Step 6

Step 7

Slice the morning buns in half horizontally. Be gentle to avoid crumbling the buns.

Step 7

Step 8

Shred the cabbage thinly and pat it dry. Spread your chosen salad dressing evenly on the bottom half of each morning bun. I used a yogurt dressing for a fresh taste, but a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise in a 1:1 ratio works wonderfully too. Pile the shredded cabbage generously on top of the dressing.

Step 8

Step 9

Next, add fresh chicory leaves artfully on top of the cabbage, followed by thinly sliced cherry tomatoes layered attractively. The vibrant colors will make the burgers look even more appetizing.

Step 9

Step 10

Place the cooked patty on top of the vegetables. Drizzle 2 Tbsp of tonkatsu sauce over the patty for an extra layer of savory flavor. You can also use teriyaki or BBQ sauce according to your preference.

Step 10

Step 11

Finally, place the top half of the morning bun to complete the burger. To keep everything in place, secure it with a skewer or toothpick. Your cute and delicious mini morning bun burgers are now ready to be enjoyed!
