Mild and Delicious Stir-fried Squid for Kids
A Gentle and Flavorful Stir-fried Squid Recipe Perfect for Families
I picked up two fresh squids from the market. I prepared one for my husband with a spicier kick, and for my children, I stir-fried the other one with a mild, kid-friendly flavor. Here’s a recipe for delicious stir-fried squid that the whole family can enjoy! Packed with vegetables, it’s a healthy and tasty dish.
Main Ingredients- 1 Squid
- 1/2 Onion
- 1/3 Carrot
- 2 leaves Cabbage
- 1 stalk Green onion
- 1 handful Bean sprouts
- 1 handful Mushrooms (e.g., shiitake, king oyster)
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup) or rice syrup
- Pinch of Black pepper
- 2 Tbsp Soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup) or rice syrup
- Pinch of Black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, clean the squid by removing the guts and backbone. Sprinkle a little flour on the squid’s surface and rub it gently. This helps remove any sliminess and makes the squid texture firmer. Rinse thoroughly under cold running water.
Step 2
Cut the cleaned squid into bite-sized pieces or shapes your children prefer. (Tip: Cooking together with your children can be a fun family activity!)
Step 3
Prepare a variety of vegetables you have on hand, such as onion, carrot, cabbage, green onion, and mushrooms. Slice the onion and carrot thinly. Shred the cabbage. Chop the green onion diagonally. Slice the mushrooms into manageable pieces. This recipe is very flexible with the vegetables you use.
Step 4
Heat a pan with a generous amount of olive oil over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. The key is to develop a gentle garlic aroma.
Step 5
Add all the prepared vegetables (onion, carrot, cabbage, mushrooms) to the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat until the vegetables are slightly softened but still retain some crispness. This ensures a pleasant texture.
Step 6
Once the vegetables are partially cooked, add the squid and bean sprouts. Pour in the pre-mixed seasoning (soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, oligodang, pepper). Stir-fry over high heat quickly. Be careful not to overcook the squid, as it can become tough. Remove from heat as soon as the squid turns opaque. Stir-frying the bean sprouts briefly will keep them crisp, resulting in a tender and delicious stir-fried squid dish!
