Manmulsang’s Super Simple Roasted Salt Recipe Using a Microwave
Hello everyone! Today, I’m sharing a wonderfully simple recipe for roasted salt from Chef Nam Sung-ryeol, featured on Manmulsang. Forget the hassle of pan-roasting and the fear of burning the salt – this method uses just your microwave for perfectly roasted salt every time. Elevate your dishes with this subtly enhanced salt, effortlessly made at home!
Ingredients- Flower salt (or coarse sea salt) 1/2 cup (using a paper cup as a measure)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare half a cup of flower salt (or coarse sea salt) for roasting. Using a standard paper cup for measurement will be convenient. (Note: For testing purposes, I used a full cup and repeated the process twice.)
Step 2
Place the prepared salt into a microwave-safe dish or container. Importantly, do NOT cover the container with a lid. Ensure there’s ventilation.
Step 3
Now, let’s roast the salt in the microwave. Heat in 30-second intervals for a total of 1 minute and 30 seconds. Microwaving for the full 1 minute and 30 seconds all at once can cause the salt to pop and scatter, so it’s best and safest to heat it in shorter bursts.
Step 4
Here’s the salt after being roasted in three 30-second intervals. Compared to its initial state, you’ll notice it has become much drier and fluffier. This process removes moisture and intensifies its flavor.
Step 5
Carefully remove the hot salt from the microwave. Spread it out on a wide plate to cool completely. If you pack it while still warm, it might clump together.
Step 6
Once the roasted salt has cooled down completely, transfer it into a clean glass jar or an airtight container. This will keep it fresh for whenever you need it.
Step 7
Now you can use your homemade roasted salt in a variety of dishes! It will add a wonderful depth of flavor to everything from seasoned vegetables and stir-fries to egg dishes.
