This delightful cheese steamed egg is wonderfully gooey and rich with savory cheese when warm, and offers a delightful cheesy bite as it cools. Adding cheese makes it significantly more flavorful and delicious than plain steamed eggs. It’s a true crowd-pleaser!
Ingredients- 3 large eggs
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped carrot
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
- Salt (to taste)
- 2-3 handfuls of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup stock or water (using a paper cup as a measure)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, crack 3 large eggs into a Korean earthenware pot (ttukbaegi). Using a ttukbaegi helps distribute heat evenly for a softer texture.
Step 2
Add 2 tablespoons of finely chopped carrot and 2 tablespoons of finely chopped onion to the egg mixture. These vegetables add texture and nutrients.
Step 3
Add 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 cup of stock or water (measured with a paper cup). Using stock will impart a deeper umami flavor.
Step 4
Stir in 1 handful of shredded mozzarella cheese until well combined. Cover the pot with a lid and cook over very low heat. Be careful not to cook on high heat, as this can cause the steamed eggs to burn.
Step 5
Once the edges of the steamed egg begin to set and small bubbles appear, remove the lid. Evenly sprinkle the remaining 1-2 handfuls of mozzarella cheese over the top. Continue to cook for a short while until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Step 6
Your fluffy and delicious cheese steamed egg is complete! Serve directly from the ttukbaegi while hot. The combination of soft egg and chewy cheese is truly exceptional. ♥
