Make Delicious Marinated Beef Flank Steak: A Rice-Loving Dish
I usually enjoy my meat in two ways: half plain and half marinated. The marinade changes depending on my mood, but today I was craving it in a ‘galbi’ (Korean short rib) style. So, I made this marinated beef flank steak. This marinade is not only great for beef but also delicious when grilling pork or chicken.
Ingredients- Beef flank steak 150g
- Green onion 1/2 stalk
- Salt 2 pinches
- Black pepper 2 pinches
Soy Sauce Marinade- Soy sauce 1 Tbsp
- Sugar 0.8 Tbsp
- Minced garlic 1/2 Tbsp
- Cooking wine (Mirin or Cheongju) 1/2 Tbsp
- Soy sauce 1 Tbsp
- Sugar 0.8 Tbsp
- Minced garlic 1/2 Tbsp
- Cooking wine (Mirin or Cheongju) 1/2 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gently pat the beef flank steak dry with paper towels. Then, sprinkle both sides evenly with salt and black pepper to season. This helps to enhance the meat’s natural flavor and lock in the juices.
Step 2
Next, add the minced garlic to the seasoned flank steak. The pungent aroma of garlic will infuse the meat, adding a wonderful depth of flavor.
Step 3
Add the sugar to bring in sweetness. 0.8 Tbsp provides a balanced sweetness, but feel free to add a little more if you prefer a sweeter taste.
Step 4
Now, add the soy sauce for a savory base. This is a key component for a galbi-style marinade.
Step 5
Finally, add the cooking wine (Mirin or Cheongju). This will help to remove any unwanted odors and tenderize the meat.
Step 6
Combine all the marinade ingredients with the steak. Gently massage the marinade into the meat for about 3 minutes, ensuring it’s evenly coated. Once mixed, cover the steak with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. For even deeper flavor, marinate for over an hour if time permits.
Step 7
While the steak is marinating, chop the green onion into large, bite-sized pieces (about 3-4 cm long). Using thicker green onions will bring out more sweetness when grilled.
Step 8
After marinating, take the flank steak out of the refrigerator and place it in a preheated pan to cook. Add the chopped green onions to the pan alongside the steak. The green onions will add a sweet aroma as they cook with the meat.
Step 9
Cook the steak, flipping it occasionally, to your desired doneness. The green onions may cook faster than the steak; once they are nicely browned and fragrant, you can remove them from the pan first.
Step 10
When grilling the marinated steak, it’s important to cook over medium-low heat to prevent the marinade from burning. Cook until the marinade thickens slightly and clings beautifully to the meat, creating a glossy finish. This is when the rich flavor of the marinade and the tender texture of the steak are at their best. Cook to your preferred level of doneness and enjoy!
Step 11
Your delicious marinated beef flank steak is ready! Enjoy a satisfying meal with a bowl of hot rice.
