Making Delicious and Special Oil Tteokbokki
A Unique Twist: Irresistible Oil Tteokbokki Recipe (No Gochujang!)
Tired of the same old gochujang-based tteokbokki every time? This time, we’ve created a different, and even more delicious, version: Oil Tteokbokki. Its subtle soy sauce base and rich, savory flavor will capture your taste buds, offering an unforgettable culinary experience.
Ingredients- 200g Tteokbokki rice cakes (for a chewy texture)
- 1 packet of store-bought Oil Tteokbokki sauce (adds convenience and deep flavor)
- 1 hard-boiled egg (for a savory touch and added heartiness)
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds (for a final sprinkle of nutty flavor)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to make a ‘Oil Tteokbokki’ that’s different from the usual, and loved by everyone from kids to adults. You can achieve a wonderfully delicious result even with just a single store-bought sauce, so follow along with ease!
Step 2
First, let’s prepare the tteokbokki rice cakes. If they’ve become hard from refrigeration, rinsing them lightly under cold water will soften them up. After rinsing, drain the rice cakes thoroughly in a colander. This prevents oil splattering when cooking and stops the rice cakes from sticking together.
Step 3
Now, heat a frying pan. Add a generous amount of oil, then add the drained rice cakes. Stir-fry them over medium-low heat until they turn a nice golden brown. This will create a texture that’s slightly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Keep stirring occasionally to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to each other.
Step 4
Once the rice cakes are nicely browned, pour the entire packet of store-bought oil tteokbokki sauce into the frying pan. These commercial sauces are already seasoned to perfection, so even beginner cooks can achieve a fantastic flavor without any guesswork.
Step 5
Stir well with a spatula or chopsticks, ensuring the sauce coats the rice cakes evenly. Continue to stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes until the sauce is absorbed into the rice cakes, they look glossy, and a delicious aroma fills the air. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the rice cakes tough.
Step 6
As the oil tteokbokki nears completion, place the pre-boiled egg, cut in half, attractively on top of the tteokbokki. The savory taste of the tteokbokki and the soft texture of the boiled egg complement each other wonderfully, creating a richer flavor profile.
Step 7
Finally, generously sprinkle sesame seeds over the top to add a nutty fragrance. The sesame seeds will also enhance the appetizing appearance of your dish.
Step 8
There you have it! Your special Oil Tteokbokki is ready – it looks as good as it tastes. This dish is perfect as a snack or a simple meal replacement, so be sure to give it a try!
