Main Ingredients- 5 frozen shrimp, thawed
- 1-2 handfuls of fresh bean sprouts
- 1 bowl of cold rice (warm it up beforehand for best results)
- 1/5 carrot, finely diced
- 1 mini bell pepper, seeds removed and finely diced
- 1/3 onion, finely diced
- 1 egg
- A small amount of green onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp cooking wine (like mirin)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1.5 tsp oyster sauce
- 0.5 tsp corn syrup (or similar sweetener)
- A pinch of black pepper
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1.5 tsp oyster sauce
- 0.5 tsp corn syrup (or similar sweetener)
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, gently rinse the thawed frozen shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. Place the shrimp in a bowl, add 1 tsp of cooking wine and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well to marinate. This step helps to remove any unpleasant odors and adds flavor to the shrimp.
Step 2
Prepare the vegetables that will add flavor and texture to your fried rice. Wash the carrot, mini bell pepper, and onion, then peel them if necessary. Finely dice them into small pieces, about 0.5 cm in size. Dicing the vegetables finely ensures they cook evenly with the rice and contribute to a pleasant texture.
Step 3
Pre-mixing the seasoning ingredients will make the cooking process much smoother and more efficient. In a small bowl, combine 1 tsp soy sauce, 1.5 tsp oyster sauce, 0.5 tsp corn syrup, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir well to create your seasoning sauce. Oyster sauce adds umami, while corn syrup provides a nice sheen and subtle sweetness.
Step 4
Now, let’s begin making the fried rice. Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onion and minced garlic, and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn them. The aromatic oil forms the flavorful base of the fried rice.
Step 5
Once the green onion and garlic are fragrant, add all the prepared diced vegetables (carrot, bell pepper, onion) to the pan. Stir-fry over high heat for about 1-2 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still retain a pleasant crispness. Avoid overcooking, as this can release excess moisture.
Step 6
Push the sautéed vegetables to one side of the pan. Crack the egg into the empty space and scramble it. Once the egg is cooked, mix it gently with the vegetables and continue to stir-fry. The scrambled egg adds a wonderful soft texture throughout the rice.
Step 7
Add the marinated shrimp to the pan along with the vegetables and scrambled egg. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and are cooked through. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the shrimp tough.
Step 8
Once all ingredients are nicely sautéed, add the bowl of cold rice (preferably warmed beforehand). Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice and stir-fry. Pour the pre-mixed seasoning sauce evenly over the rice and ingredients. Continue to stir-fry over high heat for 2-3 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats every grain of rice.
Step 9
When the rice and sauce are well combined, add the washed and drained bean sprouts. Stir-fry quickly for about 1 minute, just until the bean sprouts are lightly coated and slightly wilted but still crisp. Preserving the crunch of the bean sprouts is key to this dish.
Step 10
Finally, give everything one last stir to combine thoroughly. Once the bean sprouts are slightly softened, turn off the heat. Serve the delicious fried rice immediately in a bowl. For an extra touch, you can garnish with shredded seaweed or sesame seeds. Enjoy your flavorful Korean-style fried rice!
