Essential Ingredients- 1/2 bowl of well-fermented kimchi radish
- 1 handful of green onions
- 1 handful of old-fashioned sausage (or Spam, or other ham)
- 1 bowl of rice
- 1 egg (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Today, we’re going to make a really simple yet delicious fried rice using well-fermented kimchi radish from your fridge. You can whip this up quickly on busy days or when you don’t have much appetite, so be sure to follow along!
Step 2
First, prepare the ingredients for the fried rice. Chop the well-fermented kimchi radish into bite-sized pieces and finely chop the green onions. Slice the old-fashioned sausage (or ham) as you like. One bowl of warm rice is perfect.
Step 3
Heat some oil in a pan, add the chopped green onions, and stir-fry over medium-low heat until fragrant to create scallion oil. Making good scallion oil will significantly deepen the flavor of the fried rice.
Step 4
Once the scallions are fragrant, add the chopped kimchi radish and stir-fry together. Stir-fry until the radish becomes slightly mashed and tender; this allows the seasoning to penetrate better and makes it tastier.
Step 5
When the kimchi radish is cooked a bit, add the prepared old-fashioned sausage (or ham) and stir-fry it with the radish. The fried rice tastes even better when the sausage is lightly browned.
Step 6
Now, add 2 tablespoons of kimchi radish brine to enhance the savory flavor of the fried rice. The unique sweet and sour taste of the brine will bring out the overall flavor of the dish.
Step 7
Add 1 teaspoon of gochujang here to add spiciness and color. Stir-fry well, mixing the gochujang with the other ingredients.
Step 8
Finally, add one bowl of warm rice, drizzle with 1 teaspoon of oyster sauce and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil. Gently break up any clumps of rice with a spatula and stir-fry thoroughly until all ingredients and seasonings are evenly combined. When the rice grains become fluffy and the whole dish has a nice sheen, your delicious kimchi radish fried rice is ready!
Step 9
Sprinkle some sesame seeds over the finished kimchi radish fried rice. If you like, top it with a fried egg for an even more satisfying and delicious meal.
