Kid-Pleasing Cod Simmered in Teriyaki Sauce
Delicious Cod Simmered in a Sweet and Savory Teriyaki Glaze, Perfect for All Ages
Bring home a fresh, nicely sized cod and transform it into a delightful simmered dish! This recipe offers a Japanese-inspired teriyaki twist, distinct from typical Korean preparations. We’ve reduced the sweetness often found in Japanese-style dishes, tailoring it to suit local palates for a perfectly balanced, savory, and subtly sweet flavor. The thick cod fillets are wonderfully chewy yet tender, making them a joy to eat. I was so impressed with how easy it was to make and how delicious it turned out – I almost finished it all myself! The unique combination of chewy and tender fish flesh with the rich teriyaki sauce is truly special. This dish is perfect for a casual weeknight meal or to impress guests. Enjoy your flavorful cod simmer!
Main Ingredients- 1 whole cod, cleaned and prepared
- 15 cloves garlic
Teriyaki Glaze- 300ml water
- 3 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp ginger powder
- A small bunch of green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 300ml water
- 3 Tbsp teriyaki sauce
- 3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 1/2 tsp ginger powder
- A small bunch of green onions, sliced (for garnish)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the star of the dish: the teriyaki glaze. In a bowl, combine 300ml of water, 3 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce, 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 3 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1/2 teaspoon of ginger powder. Whisk well until the honey (or sugar, if using) is completely dissolved.
Step 2
Rinse the prepared cod under cold water and pat it dry. Place the cod and the 15 whole garlic cloves into a wok or a deep pot. Ensure the pot is large enough to comfortably hold the fish.
Step 3
Pour the prepared teriyaki glaze evenly over the cod. This will help the flavors penetrate the fish. Cover the pot and bring the liquid to a boil over high heat.
Step 4
Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and let the cod simmer until cooked through. To ensure moist and flavorful fish, periodically spoon some of the simmering sauce over the cod. Be careful not to cook over excessively high heat, which could cause it to burn.
Step 5
When the cod is nearly cooked and the sauce has thickened slightly, add the sliced green onions. Simmer for another minute or two until the green onions are fragrant and slightly tender. This adds a fresh aromatic note to the dish.
Step 6
Carefully transfer the delicious teriyaki-glazed cod to a serving plate. It’s ready to be enjoyed! This dish pairs wonderfully with a bowl of hot steamed rice. Savor the delightful texture of the cod and the rich, savory-sweet teriyaki sauce.
