Nutritious Dried Shrimp Stir-fry

  • 3 handfuls of dried small shrimp (choose small, soft ones suitable for toddlers)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce (or baby soy sauce)
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup (adjust sweetness for your child)

Crisp and Sweet Potato Stir-fry

  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/2 carrot

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the dried small shrimp for the main side dish. Small, soft dried shrimp are easy for a 3-year-old to chew, making them great for baby food or broth, but when stir-fried like this, they become a wonderful side dish. Approximately 3 handfuls is a suitable portion for one meal.

Step 1

Step 2

Get a clean, dry pan and add the dried small shrimp. Keep the heat on low to medium-low and slowly stir-fry until the moisture evaporates from the shrimp. This process will release their savory aroma.

Step 2

Step 3

It’s crucial to keep stirring the shrimp as they turn slightly brown and become crispy. Even on low heat, don’t get complacent; stirring regularly ensures even cooking and prevents burning. The key is to watch them carefully so they don’t scorch!

Step 3

Step 4

Once the shrimp are sufficiently stir-fried, add 1 tsp of soy sauce and stir to coat them lightly. Adjust the amount of soy sauce to your child’s preference or omit it if needed. After turning off the heat, add 1 Tbsp of corn syrup for sweetness. Important tip: always add corn syrup when the heat is off to prevent the shrimp from becoming hard. Stir well after adding the syrup for a delicious dried shrimp stir-fry!

Step 4

Step 5

Now, let’s make the mild and sweet potato stir-fry. Once the vegetables are prepped, it’s almost done! Wash and peel the potatoes, onion, and carrot. Then, julienne them into thin strips about 0.5 cm thick. Lightly oil a pan and add the prepared potatoes, onion, and carrot all at once to stir-fry.

Step 5

Step 6

Cook, adjusting the heat between medium and low, until the potatoes are tender. The natural sweetness and savory flavor of the vegetables are enough, so no additional seasoning is needed; your child will enjoy them as they are. Pierce the potatoes with a chopstick to check if they are fully cooked.

Step 6

Step 7

These delicious dried shrimp and potato stir-fries are ready in just about 30 minutes! Presenting them together on a visually appealing toddler plate will make mealtime even more enjoyable for your child. Since they can be made with simple ingredients from your fridge, anyone can create a tasty side dish without failure by following the cooking instructions carefully, especially by preventing them from burning. Make it often, just like in our home!
