Main Ingredients- 4-5 sheets of flat pollock fish cake (cut to your preference)
- 5-6 sticks of crab sticks (imitation crab meat)
- A small amount of green onion (for added aroma)
Sweet & Savory Glaze- 2-3 Tbsp vegetable oil (or sunflower oil)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2-3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2-3 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey/sugar)
- 2 Tbsp cooking sake (or mirin)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
- 2-3 Tbsp vegetable oil (or sunflower oil)
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 2-3 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2-3 Tbsp corn syrup (or honey/sugar)
- 2 Tbsp cooking sake (or mirin)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the flat pollock fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, about 2-3 cm wide. It’s best to cut them into smaller pieces so children can eat them easily.
Step 2
Next, tear or cut the crab sticks into pieces similar in size to the fish cakes. Tearing them gently can create a more tender texture.
Step 3
Finely chop the white parts of the green onion. Heat 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a wide pan over low heat. Add the chopped green onion and stir-fry until fragrant. This process, known as making ‘green onion oil,’ significantly enhances the flavor. Once the aroma is released, add 1 teaspoon of minced garlic and stir-fry for about 1 minute more until fragrant.
Step 4
Add the prepared fish cakes and crab sticks to the pan with the aromatic oil. Gently toss them to prevent sticking.
Step 5
Now, it’s time for the delicious glaze! Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2-3 tablespoons of corn syrup, and 2 tablespoons of cooking sake (or mirin) evenly over the ingredients in the pan. If the mixture seems too dry or thick, you can add 2-3 tablespoons of water to adjust the consistency.
Step 6
Turn the heat up to high and quickly stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, allowing the glaze to coat all the ingredients evenly. The key is to stir-fry rapidly with chopsticks or a spatula so the sauce evenly distributes! Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for a beautifully finished dish.
Step 7
This sweet and savory pollock fish cake and crab stick stir-fry is perfect as a nutritious snack for growing children or as a satisfying side dish with rice. It’s also delicious served over hot rice for a simple meal. Make this delightful dish that the whole family can enjoy!
