Kid-Approved ‘Zero Acidity’ Soya Bokkeum (Stir-Fried Sausage) Recipe
Perfect for Kids During COVID-19! A New Kind of Soya Bokkeum That’s Not Sour, Just Delicious
I made a simple yet special Soya Bokkeum using Vienna sausages, which my sons have loved since they were little! Normally, Soya Bokkeum isn’t a popular side dish in our home and I rarely make it, maybe once a year. The main reason? The sour seasoning often used! Attempts to make it with ketchup or chili sauce always ended up too sour and unsuccessful. So, this time, I decided to completely change the sauce and try something new. To my absolute delight, it turned out incredibly delicious! It retained the charm of Soya Bokkeum but with a deep, rich flavor that wasn’t sour at all. After trying this recipe, my whole family devoured it in one sitting, asking if there was any more! It’s perfect as a simple side dish for kids or as a quick snack with drinks, offering a delicious Soya Bokkeum experience without any sourness. Enjoy your meal and stay healthy! ♡
Key Ingredients- 2 packs (approx. 400g) Mini Vienna Sausages
- 1/2 Onion
- 1 leaf Red Cabbage
Special Sauce- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sriracha Sauce
- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- Sesame Seeds (to taste)
- Chopped Scallions (optional)
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sriracha Sauce
- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- Sesame Seeds (to taste)
- Chopped Scallions (optional)
- Pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, score the Vienna sausages 2-3 times with a knife. This helps the sauce penetrate better and allows them to bloom attractively as they cook. You can make cross-shaped or diagonal cuts.
Step 2
Slice the onion thinly into strips. Chop the red cabbage into bite-sized pieces. These vegetables will add sweetness and texture when cooked.
Step 3
Heat olive oil in a wide pan or wok over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Once aromatic, add the sliced onions and stir-fry over medium heat until they become translucent. Sautéing the onions well to bring out their natural sweetness is key.
Step 4
Once the onions are softened, add the scored Vienna sausages and chopped red cabbage to the pan. Stir-fry together until the sausages are lightly browned and the red cabbage has wilted.
Step 5
Now, it’s time for the flavorful sauce! Add the mayonnaise, oyster sauce, Sriracha sauce, and black pepper in sequence. Stir-fry quickly over high heat until all the ingredients are evenly coated with the sauce. Be mindful to prevent the sauce from burning.
Step 6
Just before turning off the heat, sprinkle in sesame seeds for a nutty aroma. If desired, add some chopped scallions for a fresh hint of flavor. Give it a final mix, and then transfer the delicious Soya Bokkeum to a serving dish. Enjoy your perfectly cooked Soya Bokkeum!
