Pilaf Ingredients

  • Pork neck 2 pieces (approx. 200g)
  • Bell pepper 1/2 (any color)
  • Onion 1/2
  • Butter 1 Tbsp
  • Minced garlic 1/2 Tbsp
  • Oyster sauce 2 Tbsp
  • Tonkatsu sauce 2 Tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Garnish & Toppings

  • Eggs 2
  • Mayonnaise (a little)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

If you enjoy a runny yolk, prepare your fried eggs first. Making them soft-boiled will create a wonderfully creamy texture when mixed with the pilaf. If you prefer your pilaf without fried eggs, you can skip this step.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the pork neck into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5cm wide and 1cm thick, so they mix well with the rice. Finely dice the onion and bell pepper to a size similar to rice grains. (Tip: If children are picky about vegetables, try dicing them extremely finely or omitting them temporarily and mixing them in later. If you don’t have bell peppers, using only onions will still yield a delicious result.)

Step 2

Step 3

Melt 1 Tbsp of butter in a heated pan over medium-low heat. Allowing the butter to melt slowly will enhance the flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the butter has melted, add the cut pork neck to the pan and cook until it’s nicely browned on the outside. The juices released from the pork will add rich flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

When the pork neck is partially cooked, add 1/2 Tbsp of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic by adjusting the heat. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper to remove any gamey smell and lightly flavor the pork.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the pork neck is golden brown and the garlic is aromatic, add the diced bell peppers and onions and stir-fry until they become tender. (Skip this step if you chose not to use them.)

Step 7

Push the cooked ingredients to one side of the pan. Add 2 cups of cooked rice (or 1 cup per serving) to the empty space. Briefly sauté the rice, pressing it down slightly, then add 2 Tbsp of oyster sauce (1 Tbsp per serving) and 2 Tbsp of tonkatsu sauce (1 Tbsp per serving). Stir-fry quickly to ensure all ingredients are evenly combined. It’s important to stir-fry until each grain of rice is coated with the sauce.

Step 7

Step 8

When all the ingredients are well-fried and glossy, transfer the pilaf to a serving plate. Drizzle a moderate amount of mayonnaise over the top according to your preference. Be mindful not to add too much, as it can make the dish too rich; aim for a balanced flavor.

Step 8

Step 9

Finally, gently place the prepared soft-boiled fried egg on top of the pilaf. Your delicious pork neck pilaf is now complete! Breaking the soft egg yolk and mixing it with the rice will create an even more divine taste.
