Step 2
To ensure even cooking, score the pork belly on all sides with a sharp knife. Then, brush the entire surface generously with olive oil. Gently pat and rub the oil in with your hands to help the seasoning adhere better.
Step 3
Evenly sprinkle the steak seasoning all over the pork belly. You can also create your own blend using salt, pepper, and your favorite dried herbs. Continue to gently pat and rub the seasoning into the meat, ensuring good coverage. (You can find many pre-made seasoning blends at most supermarkets these days!)
Step 4
Line the bottom of your air fryer basket with parchment paper. Place the green parts of the green onion or bay leaves on top of the parchment. This helps to elevate the pork, allowing air to circulate and preventing the bottom from getting soggy, while also infusing flavor. Position the seasoned pork belly with the fattier side facing upwards. As it cooks, the rendered fat will drip down, enhancing the richness of the meat.
Step 5
Set your air fryer to 160°C (320°F) and cook for 30 minutes for the first round. This initial cooking time will start to brown and crisp up the exterior of the pork belly.
Step 6
While the pork belly is in its first cooking cycle, prepare your optional vegetables. Chop the potatoes, onion, carrots, and garlic into bite-sized pieces. Feel free to substitute or add other vegetables like mushrooms, pineapple, or bell peppers based on your preference!
Step 7
After the initial 30 minutes, carefully remove the pork belly from the air fryer. You should see a beautifully golden-brown and appetizingly cooked surface.
Step 8
Flip the pork belly over to the other side to ensure even browning. Then, arrange the prepared vegetables around the pork belly in the air fryer basket. Your preparation for the second cooking stage is complete.
Step 9
Return the pork belly and vegetables to the air fryer, and cook at the same temperature of 160°C (320°F) for an additional 20 minutes. Please note that air fryer temperatures can vary, so it’s a good idea to check the pork’s doneness and adjust the time and temperature as needed. This duration usually yields a perfect result for me!
Step 10
Once the second cooking cycle is finished, your pork belly should be perfectly golden and cooked through. Remove it from the air fryer and slice it into desired serving portions. Your delicious oven-roasted pork belly is ready to enjoy!
Step 11
If your vegetables seem less cooked than the pork, you can place them back in the air fryer for a few extra minutes while you’re slicing the meat. Alternatively, a more convenient method is to add the vegetables during the last 20 minutes of the initial cooking phase and adjust the time accordingly.
Step 12
Serve the finished pork belly with steak sauce for an extra layer of flavor. Enjoy the wonderful combination of crispy exterior and juicy interior!
