  • 1/2 eggplant
  • 1/2 zucchini
  • 1/3 onion

  • 30g button mushrooms (approx. 2-3 mushrooms)

For the Special Steak Sauce

  • 30g button mushrooms (for sauce, thinly sliced)
  • 50ml store-bought steak sauce
  • 200ml water
  • 2 Tbsp sugar

For Cooking the Steak

  • 2 Tbsp cooking oil (e.g., olive oil)
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 2 cloves garlic (thinly sliced)

For Sautéing Vegetables

  • 2 Tbsp cooking oil (e.g., olive oil)
  • Assorted prepared vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, onion, mushrooms, etc.)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

The first step to enhancing your steak’s flavor! Sprinkle herb-infused salt evenly on both sides of the prepared sirloin steak for seasoning. If using regular salt and pepper, season to your preference. Letting the steak sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes will help it cook more evenly.

Step 2

Prepare the vegetables to accompany your steak. Slice the eggplant and zucchini into half-moons about 0.5cm thick. Slice the onion into strips, and the garlic into thin slices of about 0.5cm. Halve the cherry tomatoes and slice the button mushrooms into approximately 1cm thick pieces. Feel free to use other vegetables as you like.

Step 3

Prepare a pan for sautéing the vegetables. Heat a pan over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil to begin sautéing.

Step 4

First, add the sliced onion and garlic, and sauté until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic; sautéing until the onion becomes translucent is key.

Step 5

Once the onion and garlic are slightly softened, add the halved cherry tomatoes and sauté them together. The tomatoes will release some juice, making the vegetables moist.

Step 6

Now, add the zucchini and sauté until slightly tender. Once the zucchini is somewhat soft, add the eggplant and continue to sauté. Eggplant cooks quickly, so avoid overcooking. Once all vegetables are adequately cooked, set them aside on a separate plate.

Step 7

Prepare a pan for searing the steak. Heat a pan over high heat until very hot, then add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil (or olive oil). A very hot pan is crucial for properly searing the steak’s exterior, which helps lock in the juices.

Step 8

Place the seasoned sirloin steak in the hot pan. Sear over high heat for 1-2 minutes per side, or until nicely browned. Avoid moving the steak too much initially; letting the crust form properly is essential for retaining juices.

Step 9

Once the steak’s exterior is seared, reduce the heat to medium-low. Add 1 teaspoon of butter and the sliced garlic. Baste the steak with the melted butter (a technique called ‘arrosage’) as it cooks. The garlic will infuse the butter with aroma, adding wonderful flavor to the steak. Cook to your desired doneness (Medium-rare: 1-2 minutes per side, Medium: 2-3 minutes per side).

Step 10

After cooking, do not cut the steak immediately. It’s essential to let it rest for about 10 minutes. Transfer the steak to a plate or cutting board and loosely tent it with aluminum foil. This resting period allows the hot juices to redistribute evenly throughout the meat, resulting in a more tender and succulent steak.

Step 11

Let’s make that delicious special sauce! You can use the same pan the steak was cooked in, or a separate one. Melt 1 teaspoon of butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced button mushrooms for the sauce and sauté until golden brown. Once the mushrooms are cooked, pour in 50ml of store-bought steak sauce and 200ml of water, mixing well. Finally, add 2 tablespoons of sugar and stir as the sauce simmers and slightly thickens. Your tasty steak sauce is ready!

Step 12

Slice the rested steak into desired portions and arrange them attractively on a plate. Serve with the sautéed vegetable garnish and generously pour the prepared special sauce over the steak. Enjoy your magnificent homemade steak dinner!
