Transforming Instant Jjajang Ramyeon into ‘Gan Jjajang’ – A Recipe Learned from Chef Lee Yeon Bok!
Wow! This tastes just like authentic ‘Gan Jjajang’! A recipe for ‘Gan Jjajang Ramyeon’ that Chef Lee Yeon Bok taught to Yoo Jae Suk, recreated with simple instant jjajang ramyeon. This recipe is a ‘must-try’ challenge from ‘Man Gae Recipe’ for anyone who loves authentic Korean flavors!
Main Ingredients- 2 packs of instant ramyeon (Jjajang ramyeon or regular ramyeon)
- 2 medium onions
- 3 jjajang ramyeon seasoning packets (powdered soup and dried vegetable packets)
- 3 strips of pork belly (approx. 100g)
- 1-2 Tbsp olive oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the generous toppings that are the heart of ‘Gan Jjajang’. Peel the onions and chop them into thick pieces, about 1 cm wide. Similarly, cut the pork belly into chunky pieces, about 1.5-2 cm. Cutting the ingredients large will ensure a satisfying texture after stir-frying.
Step 2
Get ready to cook the noodles. Fill a pot with plenty of water and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, add the ramyeon noodles. It’s best to cook them for about 30 seconds to 1 minute less than the package instructions to maintain a chewy texture.
Step 3
Now, let’s make the ‘Gan Jjajang’ sauce! Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil. Add the thickly chopped pork belly and stir-fry slowly until the pork belly is golden brown and has rendered enough fat. This step is crucial for building flavor.
Step 4
Once the pork belly is nicely browned and has released its fat, add all the chopped onions to the pan and stir-fry together. Continue to stir-fry over medium heat until the onions become translucent and release their sweet aroma. Then, add the dried vegetable packet from the jjajang ramyeon and stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until the onions and pork belly are well combined.
Step 5
When the onions and toppings are well stir-fried, add the powdered soup packet and stir quickly. Be careful not to burn the seasoning. Stir-fry for about 1 minute. At this point, add about half a ladle of the ramyeon noodle cooking water to the sauce and stir-fry together. This will help the sauce bind well with the noodles and achieve a perfect consistency. Adjust the amount of water as needed to reach your desired sauce thickness.
Step 6
Drain the cooked ramyeon noodles well and arrange them attractively in a serving bowl. Generously spoon the hot, freshly made ‘Gan Jjajang’ sauce over the noodles to complete your delicious ‘Gan Jjajang Ramyeon’! Mix it all up and enjoy your incredible meal!
