I’ve heard amazing things about Ottogi’s Gorigori Perilla Oil Makguksu, but it’s always sold out! This recipe is my recreation of the delicious taste I remember from a visit to Gorigori. It’s surprisingly easy to make!

Noodle Ingredients

  • 1 serving buckwheat noodles (approx. 100-120g)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Tsuyu (Japanese dipping sauce)
  • 1 handful seasoned laver (gim), crumbled
  • 2 Tbsp sesame seeds (toasted or crushed)
  • 1.5 Tbsp perilla oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, gather all the ingredients for your delicious perilla oil makguksu. You’ll be surprised at how simple it is!

Bring a generous amount of water to a rolling boil in a large pot. Once boiling, add the buckwheat noodles and cook according to the package instructions (usually 3-4 minutes). After cooking, rinse the noodles thoroughly under cold running water to remove excess starch. It’s crucial to drain them very well in a colander. Place the well-drained noodles into your serving bowl.

Drizzle 1.5 tablespoons of Tsuyu over the noodles in the bowl, ensuring even seasoning. Next, sprinkle the crumbled seasoned laver, toasted sesame seeds, and the fragrant perilla oil over the noodles. Now, gently toss and mix everything together with chopsticks or a fork until well combined. The aromatic perilla oil, the savory laver, and the nutty sesame seeds will create an unforgettable flavor combination!
