Perfect for a romantic meal or a special occasion, this recipe offers a creamy, flavorful twist on traditional tteokbokki.
Ingredients- 2.5 Tbsp Rosé sauce
- 2 cups Milk (approx. 400ml)
- 10 pieces Cheese rice cakes (tteok)
- 10 pieces Dumplings (mandu)
- 1/2 Onion
- 5 cloves Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 2 sheets Fish cakes (eomuk)
- 1 handful Cocktail shrimp (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thinly slice half an onion. You can also lightly smash or thinly slice the 5 garlic cloves. Prepping these aromatics will enhance the depth of flavor during the sautéing process.
Step 2
The stars of this dish are the chewy dumplings and the gooey cheese rice cakes! Prepare 10 of each. Feel free to add your favorite toppings like sausages, Vienna sausages, or broccoli for an even more personalized and hearty tteokbokki experience.
Step 3
Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium-low heat. Once melted, add the sliced onions and garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent and the garlic is fragrant. This step is crucial for building a rich, complex flavor base for the rosé sauce.
Step 4
Pour 2 cups of milk (approximately 2 standard Korean paper cups) into the pan. Stir gently to combine the ingredients before increasing the heat.
Step 5
Once the milk begins to simmer, add the cheese rice cakes, fish cakes (cut into bite-sized pieces), dumplings, and 2.5 tablespoons of rosé sauce. Stir well to incorporate the sauce. You can adjust the amount of rosé sauce to your preference. If you’re adding cocktail shrimp, add them at this stage.
Step 6
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. Cook until the rice cakes and dumplings are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Once the tteok is soft and the sauce reaches your desired consistency, it’s ready!
Step 7
Serve your delicious Rosé Mandu Tteokbokki hot! Enjoy the delightful combination of sautéed aromatics, creamy rosé sauce, and the satisfying chewiness of the tteok and dumplings. This dish is sure to bring a smile to your face and warmth to your table. Enjoy your meal!
