Ingredients- 7 Potatoes
- 0.5 Tbsp Coarse Salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Here’s a helpful tip for storing potatoes: to prevent them from sprouting, keep them in a cool, dark, and well-ventilated place, ideally with an apple.
Step 2
Let me show you a simple method for boiling delicious potatoes. First, thoroughly wash the potatoes under running water. Make sure to scrub away any dirt.
Step 3
Some people peel potatoes before boiling, but boiling them with the skin on helps them maintain their shape and prevents them from breaking apart. I recommend boiling them with the skin on.
Step 4
Fill a pot with enough water to cover the potatoes. In this photo, there are 8 potatoes, but I’m boiling 7 and set aside one for a doenjang jjigae (Korean soybean paste stew). Adjust the water amount based on how many potatoes you’re cooking.
Step 5
Add half a tablespoon of coarse salt to the boiling water. While sugar or artificial sweeteners would add sweetness, using salt brings out the natural savory flavor of the potatoes, which is healthier and makes them delicious enough to eat without additional dipping sauce.
Step 6
Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the potatoes simmer until cooked through. Starting on low heat might take longer.
Step 7
Let the potatoes simmer, undisturbed, for about 40 minutes. During this time, most of the water will evaporate, and the potatoes will become tender and fluffy inside. Let me show you how to check if they’re done.
Step 8
Gently poke a potato with a chopstick or fork. If it slides in easily, they are perfectly cooked. Be careful, as they will be very hot! Let the potatoes cool slightly before peeling the skin. Peel them gently to avoid them falling apart.
Step 9
These moist and tender boiled potatoes are a great option for a quick breakfast. I had them with cherry tomatoes, and the satisfying fullness made my day brighter! They are perfectly seasoned, so you don’t need extra salt, making them a safe and healthy snack for kids. They taste even better warm. If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can sprinkle a little sugar on top to your preference!
