How to Boil Chewy Corn: The Perfect Summer Snack
[Easy Corn Boiling] The Golden Recipe to Maximize the Chewy and Sweet Flavor of Glutinous Corn
While corn is used in flour for bread and pastries, the best way to truly enjoy its authentic, delicious flavor is by boiling it! We’ll show you how to easily and deliciously boil chewy glutinous corn at home. It’s the perfect healthy summer snack!
Main Ingredients- 5 ears of glutinous corn
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Peel off all the outer husks of the corn, and meticulously remove the silk (corn beard) found between the kernels. Removing the silk cleanly makes the corn taste cleaner and ensures a smooth, non-bitter flavor.
Step 2
Fill a pot with enough water to fully submerge the corn. Add 1 tsp of salt to the water. Salt helps to enhance the corn’s natural sweetness and lightly season it.
Step 3
Add 2 tsp of sugar as well. A 1:2 ratio of salt to sugar will best bring out the corn’s natural sweetness and chewy texture. If you prefer less sweetness, you can adjust the sugar amount to your taste.
Step 4
Now, start boiling the corn over high heat. Once the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium and simmer for about 25 to 30 minutes, until the corn is fully cooked. Cooking time can vary depending on your stove’s heat and the size of the corn, so check for tenderness by piercing with a skewer or fork. If it pierces easily, it’s done. Keep an eye on it to ensure it boils sufficiently.
Step 5
Once the corn is well-boiled, drain it and let it cool slightly before enjoying. Since it’s glutinous corn, it won’t be as bright yellow as regular corn, but its chewy and sweet flavor is exceptional. It’s delicious eaten hot, or chilled as a wonderful summer treat.
