Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Red Wine (750ml)
  • 2-3 Apples (thoroughly washed)
  • 2 Oranges (thoroughly washed)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 Pear (thoroughly washed)
  • 1-2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 Tbsp Cinnamon Powder (optional, for extra spice)
  • 300ml Water (if you want to reduce alcohol)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, it’s crucial to prepare the fruits thoroughly for your Vin Chaud. Since we’ll be using the peels, scrub the apples and pears very well with baking soda until they are squeaky clean. For the oranges and lemons, rubbing them with coarse salt or baking soda and then rolling them in warm water is an effective way to remove any residual pesticides from the peel.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, slice the thoroughly washed fruits into bite-sized pieces. It’s especially important to remove the seeds from the apples and lemons. If the seeds remain, they can impart a bitter taste to your Vin Chaud, so carefully remove them using a knife or spoon.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare the red wine that will form the base of your Vin Chaud. You don’t need to use an expensive bottle; a relatively inexpensive wine from the supermarket will make a delicious Vin Chaud. Feel free to choose one without hesitation.

Step 3

Step 4

Now it’s time to combine all the ingredients. Place all the sliced fruits and cinnamon sticks into a pot. If you prefer a milder flavor with less alcohol, you can add 300ml of water at this stage. Boiling the mixture with water will naturally evaporate some of the alcohol, making it more enjoyable for everyone.

Step 4

Step 5

It’s important to simmer this mixture gently over medium-low heat. Let it simmer for about 40 minutes to an hour. The longer it simmers, the more the fruit’s essence and wine will meld together, creating a richer flavor. After simmering, strain out the fruit and cinnamon sticks using a sieve.

Step 5

Step 6

Your fragrant Vin Chaud, filled with the aroma of fruits and a hint of cinnamon, is ready to warm you up this winter! You can adjust the sweetness by adding honey or syrup to your preference. Enjoy it while it’s hot!
