Homemade Sweet & Tangy Strawberry Jam
Easy Strawberry Jam Recipe for Beginners
My baby loves homemade strawberry jam! Store-bought versions often taste more like sugar than actual strawberries, so I decided to make my own. This recipe brings out the fresh, natural flavor of strawberries for a jam everyone can enjoy with peace of mind. Let’s make delicious, homemade strawberry jam together!
Main Ingredients for Fruit Jam- 600g fresh strawberries
- 300g granulated sugar (or unrefined sugar, 50% of strawberry weight)
- 6 Tbsp vinegar (for washing and preservation)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, thoroughly wash the fresh strawberries under running water. Adding a little vinegar to the water will help remove any residual pesticides or impurities more effectively. Soak them in the vinegar water for about 1 minute, then rinse again with clean water.
Step 2
Carefully remove the green tops from the washed strawberries using a sharp knife or scissors. It’s important to remove these thoroughly, as they can harbor pesticide residue, ensuring a safer jam for consumption.
Step 3
Mash the cleaned strawberries using a fork or a potato masher. It’s best to leave some small chunks for texture, rather than mashing them into a completely smooth puree. This will give the jam a more enjoyable consistency. If you have children, let them help with the mashing for some fun!
Step 4
Combine the mashed strawberries and sugar in a pot. Begin cooking over high heat, stirring with a spatula to ensure the sugar dissolves well with the strawberries. Once the sugar starts to melt, the jam-making process truly begins.
Step 5
As the jam starts to boil and foam appears on the surface, reduce the heat to medium. At this point, stir in 3 tablespoons of vinegar. This will enhance the vibrant color of the jam and add a delightful tangy flavor, significantly improving its overall taste. Stir continuously to prevent boiling over.
Step 6
Once the jam returns to a gentle simmer, further reduce the heat to medium-low. Add the remaining 3 tablespoons of vinegar. Continue stirring constantly to prevent the jam from sticking to the bottom and burning. Adjust the cooking time as you observe the jam thickening.
Step 7
Simmer over medium-low heat, stirring for about 10 more minutes, until your delicious homemade strawberry jam is complete. Remember that the jam will thicken further as it cools, so it’s best to turn off the heat when it’s still slightly looser than your desired final consistency. Once completely cooled, transfer the jam into sterilized glass jars and store in the refrigerator for long-lasting freshness.
