Using a healthier, homemade strawberry syrup instead of overly sweet store-bought versions, this recipe allows you to enjoy a delicious and wholesome café-style beverage right in your kitchen. It’s easier and tastier than you think!
Strawberry Einspänner Ingredients- 5 Tbsp homemade strawberry syrup (or store-bought)
- 1 cup ice
- 100-120 ml fresh milk
- 5 Tbsp whipped cream
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing our homemade strawberry syrup! Store-bought syrups often have a 1:1 ratio of strawberries to sugar, making them quite sweet and potentially less healthy. Homemade allows you to control the sugar content – aim for about 200g of sugar for 1kg of strawberries. Gently mash the strawberries with a fork or potato masher to create a chunky, flavorful syrup with a delightful chewy texture.
Step 2
Next, take a 350ml glass and add 5 tablespoons of your delicious homemade strawberry syrup to the bottom. Don’t worry if there are plenty of strawberry pieces; they add a wonderful texture to the drink.
Step 3
Now, fill the glass generously with ice cubes. This will make your drink wonderfully cold. You can adjust the amount of ice to your preference, but filling about 70-80% of the glass is usually a good amount.
Step 4
Slowly pour fresh milk into the glass until it reaches about two-thirds of the way full. You’ll notice the milk creating a beautiful layer above the strawberry syrup.
Step 5
Finally, top generously with fluffy whipped cream for a delightful finish! An Einspänner traditionally refers to a carriage pulled by one horse, and in coffee terms, it’s an Americano topped with cream – similar to a Viennese coffee. Enjoy this layered treat! (Tip: For an extra touch of elegance, garnish the whipped cream with fresh strawberry slices or a sprig of mint.)
