Ingredients (Makes 5 Burgers)- 5 Morning Buns
- 1 Egg (for patty)
- 15 Shrimp (shelled and deveined)
- 3 Tbsp minced onion
- A handful of lettuce
- 1 tsp salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 4 Tbsp all-purpose flour (for patty)
- 5 slices of processed cheese (optional)
Shrimp Patty Coating- 2 Eggs (for coating)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
Homemade Tartar Sauce- 5 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped pickles
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
- 1 Tbsp honey
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 Eggs (for coating)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs

- 2 Tbsp finely chopped pickles
- 2 Tbsp finely chopped onion
- 1 Tbsp honey

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the star of our shrimp burger: the shrimp patty. If using frozen shrimp, thaw them first. For fresh shrimp, remove the heads and shells, separating the shrimp meat.

Chop the shrimp meat with a knife into bite-sized pieces. Avoid mincing it too finely; leaving some texture will enhance the eating experience. You don’t need to exert too much effort here.

To the chopped shrimp, add 3 Tbsp of minced onion, 1 egg, 4 Tbsp of flour, 1 tsp of salt, and a pinch of pepper. Mix everything thoroughly with your hands until it forms a cohesive and slightly sticky dough. If the mixture feels too loose to form patties, gradually add a little more flour until it holds its shape well.
Step 4
Now, let’s prepare the coating for a crispy texture. In separate shallow dishes or plates, place 1 cup of breadcrumbs, 1 cup of flour, and 2 beaten eggs for the egg wash. Have these ready for dredging the patties.

Shape the shrimp mixture into patties that match the size of your buns. Since I’m using morning buns, I formed them into round, flat shapes to fit their diameter. This size is perfect for a single serving.

First, lightly coat each shaped shrimp patty with flour, ensuring it’s evenly covered. Gently shake off any excess flour. This step helps the egg wash adhere better in the next stage.

Next, dip the flour-coated patty into the beaten egg wash, making sure it’s fully coated. Immediately transfer it to the breadcrumbs and press gently to ensure the breadcrumbs stick well all over the patty.

While deep-frying is an option, we’ll opt for a healthier pan-frying method. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a wide skillet over medium-low heat. Cook the shrimp patties, flipping them once, until golden brown and cooked through on both sides. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.

Pan-frying achieves a wonderfully crispy exterior and a juicy interior, even without deep-frying. Once cooked, place the patties on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.
