Homemade Refreshing Red Bean Bingsu
[Golden Recipe for Patbingsu] Make Patbingsu Without a Machine! Let’s Make Red Bean Bingsu with Milk~
The weather is getting hotter and hotter, heralding summer. It’s the season when refreshing red bean bingsu comes to mind! Wouldn’t you like to make a cool, nutritious, easy-to-make, and delicious simple red bean bingsu recipe with me, without a bingsu machine? π
Bingsu Ingredients- 3 packs of 200ml milk
- 300g whole red beans or cooked red beans
- Sweetened condensed milk, to taste
- 2 rice cakes (mochi) or chewy rice cakes
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The weather is so hot today! So, after lunch, I made some red bean bingsu for my family as dessert~ We occasionally make this at home as a snack, and I’d like to share it with you! This is a recipe that uses frozen milk instead of a bingsu machine or ice, and the taste is just as good as bingsu bought from outside! Let’s get started. β
Step 2
Using 200ml of milk is recommended because freezing it in small portions helps maintain its shape when crushed and prevents it from becoming too watery. Take the solidly frozen milk out of the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for about 40-50 minutes. Then, without letting it completely melt, carefully break it into pieces with a knife as if you were slicing it. β» Tip: For 1-liter cartons, pour the milk into resealable plastic bags, flatten them thinly, and freeze. You can then break them apart directly by hitting the bag. I originally did it this way, but since I bought 200ml packs from the supermarket, it’s been more inconvenient. Just break them apart without needing to thaw them in the bag. β β
Step 3
Although it might look clumped in the picture, the milk has been broken down into fine, powdery ice crystals. Now, simply place the sweetened red beans on top. (I used 3 cans of Bokumjari’s 120g sweetened red beans. I thought maybe I should have bought a larger container with a lid. It was so delicious, I think I’ll make it again!) I have some leftover red bean porridge at home, so I should probably make some sweetened red beans myself~ β
Step 4
After adding the sweetened red beans, drizzle a little sweetened condensed milk over the top. β
Step 5
Next, cut the chewy rice cakes into bite-sized pieces and place them on top! (I bought these from a bakery near my house for 800 won each.) The rice cakes look bigger in the photo than they actually are. It’s a bit disappointing that the photo came out darker than the actual appearance. You can also use Injeolmi (Korean sweet rice cakes coated in bean powder) instead of chewy rice cakes. You could also add a little roasted grain powder (misutgaru) or bean powder according to your taste. For plating, I used a Lotte Chilsung LolliPop that I had at home on one side. β β
Step 6
Made solely with pure milk, it’s a great nutritious snack for children and a perfect dessert after a meal. I love bingsu and have visited many famous places, but with this level of taste, I think there’s no need to go out; you can easily make it at home! Since it’s made with pure milk without ice, it’s not bland; it’s smooth, nutty, and sweet π I hope you all try making it at home too.
