This homemade ginger syrup, prepared with dedication, will be your comforting companion throughout the winter. While the process demands patience, the result is a delicious and health-boosting syrup perfect for warding off the cold and supporting your well-being.
Ingredients- 500g fresh ginger
- 500g honey
- 5 Tbsp lemon juice
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by carefully preparing the fresh ginger. Cleaning and trimming the ginger can take up to 40% of the total preparation time, so dedicate ample effort to ensure it’s thoroughly cleaned. This initial step requires considerable patience.
Step 2
Peel the ginger meticulously to reveal its clean, pale flesh. This ensures a pure and pleasant flavor in your syrup.
Step 3
Soaking the ginger in water briefly can help loosen the skin, making it easier to peel.
Step 4
Use a paring knife to gently scrape off the skin. To preserve as much of the ginger’s flesh as possible, scraping rather than cutting is recommended. This method, while careful, can be time-consuming. Consider this the first stage of preparation complete.
Step 5
Rinse the ginger thoroughly under running water again, and then proceed with the second stage of peeling.
Step 6
After a truly painstaking peeling process, the ginger is now beautifully cleaned! If someone ever gifts you homemade ginger syrup, you’ll know the immense effort they put in – cherish that friendship! The fresh ginger looks lovely, doesn’t it?
Step 7
You can slice the ginger into rounds or julienne it. For optimal flavor extraction and to enjoy the ginger pieces, finely julienning (cutting into thin strips) is the best approach.
Step 8
Julienning the ginger requires a significant amount of time and effort. Be patient and meticulous during this step!
Step 9
The key ratio for making homemade syrup, whether with sugar or honey, is 1:1. Simply remember this golden ratio, and you’ll easily create delicious homemade syrup.
Step 10
Weigh the julienned ginger. For this recipe, we’re using 500g of ginger and adding an equal amount, 500g, of honey.
Step 11
Add 5 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice to introduce a bright, zesty note and a boost of Vitamin C.
Step 12
Sterilize a glass jar by boiling it in water beforehand. Carefully transfer the prepared ginger and honey mixture into the clean jar.
Step 13
Allow the syrup to mature for about 5 days. Afterward, mix it with hot water to enjoy a comforting and healthy ginger tea.
