Homemade Baked Eggs: A Delicious and Chewy Treat
Easy Recipe for Delicious Baked Eggs Using Fresh Free-Range Eggs
Transform your fresh free-range eggs into delicious, chewy baked eggs reminiscent of those found at Korean jjimjilbangs (bathhouses). This simple recipe uses just an electric rice cooker, making it incredibly easy for anyone to achieve perfect results.
Ingredients for Baked Eggs- 22-23 fresh free-range eggs
- 1/2 Tbsp salt (for enhancing flavor)
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (for cleaning the eggshells)
- Water, enough to cover the eggs
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
We’ve gathered quite a few fresh eggs from our lovely chickens! After pondering what to make with this bounty, I decided to try my hand at making baked eggs, a universally loved treat.
Step 2
First, to ensure cleanliness, let’s prepare a vinegar bath. Place the eggs in a bowl and gently rinse them in water mixed with 1 tablespoon of vinegar. This step helps remove any surface impurities, ensuring a hygienic start to our cooking. After rinsing, pat them dry gently.
Step 3
Now, let’s get the electric rice cooker ready. Pour enough clean water into the inner pot to completely submerge the eggs. Add 1/2 tablespoon of salt; this not only helps prevent the eggshells from cracking during the cooking process but also aids in osmotic pressure, contributing to a moist texture. Carefully arrange the eggs in the salted water. Once everything is in place, press the ‘Cook’ button on your rice cooker and wait. When the cooking cycle finishes and it switches to ‘Keep Warm,’ add a little more water and press ‘Cook’ again. Repeating this ‘Cook’ and ‘Keep Warm’ cycle 2-3 times will result in wonderfully chewy and flavorful baked eggs.
Step 4
Finally, the wait is over, and our delicious baked eggs are ready! The steam rising from them is tempting, but they are extremely hot right now. To avoid burning your fingers, it’s best to let them cool down for a bit before peeling. We recommend waiting until they are cool enough to handle comfortably.
Step 5
A few of the shells might have cracked slightly, but seeing the overall well-formed baked eggs fills me with satisfaction. Now comes the most exciting part – let’s see how the inside has turned out!
Step 6
Peeling back the shell reveals that characteristic, appetizing brown hue of a perfectly baked egg! The firm, chewy whites and the rich, creamy yolk look absolutely delicious. The taste and texture are simply superb. From now on, I think I’ll be making baked eggs exclusively instead of boiled ones! Give this recipe a try at home with your fresh ingredients!
