Herbal Samgyetang (Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup)
Make Delicious Herbal Samgyetang at Home: Just Add This One Ingredient!
Enjoy a deeply flavorful and healthy Korean-style chicken soup, Hanbang Baeksuk, easily at home without complicated steps. This recipe uses a special herbal ingredient for a rich taste, perfect for a nourishing meal.
Ingredients- 1/2 chicken (cleaned)
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 stalk green onion
- 600ml water
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 pinches black pepper
- 60ml ready-made Hwangeotang (herbal tonic)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gently rinse the half chicken under running water. You can trim any excess skin or fat for a cleaner taste.
Step 2
Peel the 3 cloves of garlic and slice them about 0.5cm thick. Using whole garlic cloves will infuse the broth with a deeper garlic flavor.
Step 3
Wash the green onion stalk and cut it into large pieces, about 3-4cm long. The white part of the green onion adds a refreshing taste and aromatic flavor to the soup.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to combine all the ingredients in a pot. Add the prepared half chicken, 600ml of water, 1 tsp of salt, 2 pinches of black pepper, the sliced garlic, the roughly chopped green onion, and the key ingredient: 60ml of ready-made Hwangeotang. The Hwangeotang will add a subtle herbal aroma and a rich depth of flavor.
Step 5
Cover the pot tightly with a lid and cook over medium-low heat for about 30 minutes. This slow simmering will make the chicken tender and allow the flavors to meld beautifully, creating a delicious Hanbang Baeksuk. If the liquid reduces too much during cooking, you can add a little more water.
