Cooking Instructions
Step 1
This is the first step to preparing the delicious and filling sandwich filling! We’ve gathered all the ingredients for the sandwich filling for easy viewing. You’ll basically need tuna, onion, imitation crab (kani kama), corn, and hard-boiled eggs. For added crunch and flavor, consider preparing bell pepper or, if you like a little heat, Korean chili pepper. Don’t forget the cheese slices!
Step 2
If you want to add some color, red bell pepper is a great choice. However, if you don’t have any, using finely minced Korean chili pepper is also a good option for a crunchy texture and a hint of spice. Mince it very finely so even children can enjoy it without issue. Prepare the finely minced bell pepper or chili pepper.
Step 3
Drain the oil completely from the can of tuna and place it in a bowl. Finely mince the onion, then soak it in cold water for a few minutes before squeezing out excess moisture to mellow its sharpness for a cleaner taste. Also, drain the corn kernels well. Shred or finely chop the imitation crab sticks (Kani Kama) so they blend well with the other ingredients.
Step 4
Peel the hard-boiled eggs and mash them thoroughly with a fork or a masher until smooth and lump-free. For extra texture and flavor, finely dicing some cucumber and adding it is also delicious. It’s best to remove the seeds from the cucumber before dicing to reduce moisture.
Step 5
Now it’s time to make the sauce for the sandwich filling! Combine the prepared tuna, minced onion, corn, mashed eggs, shredded imitation crab, and minced bell pepper (or chili pepper) in a bowl. Add a generous amount of honey mustard sauce and mayonnaise. If you prefer a touch of sweetness, add about 1 teaspoon of oligodang or honey, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix everything together thoroughly. You can adjust the ingredient quantities to your liking, but the more filling, the better the sandwich! It’s more important to mix the ingredients well so they blend harmoniously, rather than sticking to precise ratios.
Step 6
Prepare the bread slices for your sandwich. Any type of bread works well, but today we’re using whole wheat for a healthier option. Spread the cheese slices on one side of a bread slice. Then, generously pile on the prepared tuna and vegetable filling. Finally, place another slice of bread on top and gently press down with your hands to complete your delicious sandwich!
Step 7
Cut the completed sandwich into your desired size and shape. Square pieces are fine, or you can cut them into triangles for a more appealing look. Trimming off the crusts with scissors or a knife can make the sandwich softer and easier to eat. Enjoy your delicious tuna and vegetable sandwich!
