  • 1 serving Chinese Noodles

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

This recipe features Goraesa Fish Cake Noodles Jjambbong. I’m using one of the two packages of fish cake noodles I bought to make this Jjambbong. (Note: Fish cake noodles can often be purchased individually.)

Step 1

Step 2

Typically, a Goraesa Fish Cake Noodles Jjambbong package includes fish cake noodles, square fish cakes, a seafood block, dried vegetable flakes, and a Jjambbong sauce. For this recipe, I’ve added extra square fish cakes, a seafood block, and dried vegetable flakes beyond what’s in the package. (Tip: Set the fish cake noodles aside as they will be added towards the end for their chewy texture.)

Step 2

Step 3

To add a deep, savory base, we’ll prepare chicken broth. I’ve used thawed chicken broth that was previously stored in the freezer after making samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup). This broth already has basic salt and pepper seasoning, so no further seasoning is needed. (Tip: You can also use store-bought chicken broth or chicken stock.)

Step 3

Step 4

Pour the prepared chicken broth into a large pot. Add the seafood block and dried vegetable flakes from the package to enhance the flavor.

Step 4

Step 5

Next, add the frozen mixed seafood and frozen roasted mixed vegetables to make the dish even richer. Frozen vegetables are convenient as they require no prior preparation.

Step 5

Step 6

Chop the additional square fish cakes into bite-sized pieces and add them to the pot. Then, add the Goraesa Fish Cake Noodles whole; they offer a delightful chewy texture. (Tip: Be careful not to overcook the fish cake noodles, as they can become mushy. Adjust cooking time accordingly.)

Step 6

Step 7

Now, add the Jjambbong sauce to introduce the spicy kick and begin boiling the ingredients. Let everything simmer together until well combined.

Step 7

Step 8

Once the broth starts to bubble vigorously, add the gochugaru (Korean chili powder) and minced garlic for an extra layer of spiciness. Cook over high heat, skimming off any foam that rises to the surface. (Tip: Because this is a clear chicken broth base, there will be very little foam, resulting in a clean cooking process.)

Step 8

Step 9

As the soup comes to a boil again, use chopsticks to gently separate the fish cake noodles that might be clumped together. The rich Jjambbong aroma and the fresh seafood scent will fill your kitchen, making your mouth water! The spicy, hearty, and deeply flavored Fish Cake Noodle Jjambbong is almost ready!

Step 9

Step 10

Since the portion is generous, transfer some of the Jjambbong to another pot. Add one serving of Chinese noodles to the transferred broth and cook again until the noodles are tender and separated. (Tip: Adding the Chinese noodles directly to the Jjambbong broth without pre-boiling allows the noodles to absorb the flavors better, making them even tastier.)

Step 10

Step 11

Finally, serve the completed Jjambbong attractively in bowls. Enjoy the combination of chewy fish cake noodles, tender Chinese noodles, abundant seafood and vegetables, and the spicy broth! This Fish Cake Noodle Seafood Jjambbong offers a satisfying meal with a delightful variety of textures. Enjoy the unique experience of savoring two different types of noodles in one delicious dish!
