Satisfying Rolled Omelet Rice for a Full Meal
This rolled omelet rice is incredibly satisfying because it’s packed with rice inside! A simple yet filling meal that’s perfect for any time of day.
Main Ingredients- 1 bowl of warm rice
- 2 eggs
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
Rice Seasoning (Vinegar Dressing)- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp mirin (rice wine)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp mirin (rice wine)
- Pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the rice seasoning. In a bowl with 1 bowl of warm rice, add 2 Tbsp of vinegar, 1 tsp of sugar, 1 Tbsp of mirin, and a pinch of salt. Using a spatula or spoon, gently mix the ingredients, being careful not to mash the rice grains, until the seasoning is evenly distributed. This step makes the rice significantly more flavorful!
Step 2
Now it’s time to make the omelet. Crack 2 eggs into a bowl, remove the chalaza (the white, stringy bits), and whisk them well. Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat and add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil. Wipe the pan with a paper towel to lightly coat the entire surface. Pour the whisked eggs into the pan, spreading them thinly and evenly to create a thin omelet layer. Cook slowly over low heat until the omelet is set but still slightly moist. Be mindful of the heat to prevent burning.
Step 3
When the omelet is almost fully cooked (it’s okay if there’s still a slightly uncooked portion), place the seasoned rice onto one end of the omelet. Then, carefully start rolling the omelet from the side with the rice, tucking the rice inside. It’s important to roll gently to prevent the omelet from tearing. Roll it tightly, ensuring the rice is well-contained and doesn’t spill out.
Step 4
Once rolled, transfer the omelet rice from the pan and let it cool slightly. If you cut it while it’s too hot, the filling might come out. Once it has cooled enough to hold its shape, slice it into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 cm thick. You’ll enjoy the combination of the soft omelet exterior and the slightly sweet and tangy rice filling. This dish is perfect as a snack for kids or as part of a lunchbox!
