Main Ingredients

  • 9 Frozen King Dumplings with thin wrappers (approx. 320g per pack)
  • 2 cups well-fermented kimchi, cut into bite-sized pieces

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Arrange 9 frozen king dumplings (about 320g, 1 pack) in a pot or ttukbaegi (earthenware pot). Leave a little space between them as they might stick together when cooking.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, add 2 cups of well-fermented kimchi, cut into bite-sized pieces, generously over the dumplings. The sourness of the aged kimchi will add depth to the stew’s flavor.

Step 2

Step 3

Now it’s time for seasoning. Add 1 Tbsp of gochugaru and 1 Tbsp of guk-ganjang for taste. Prepare the green onion by separating the white and green parts; thinly slice the white part diagonally and sprinkle it evenly over the ingredients.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour in 3 cups of anchovy-kelp broth, enough to cover the ingredients. The broth will add delicious flavor, but if you don’t have it, rice water or plain water works too. Gently mix with a spoon to ensure all ingredients are submerged in the broth.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, let’s cook. Cover the pot and bring it to a boil over high heat. Once the broth is bubbling vigorously, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dumplings are soft and cooked through. Be careful not to let the dumplings burst while simmering.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, we’ll add the vegetables for extra flavor and boil once more. Slice the green parts of the reserved green onion diagonally into about 1cm pieces, and similarly slice the 2 green chili peppers. Scatter them over the stew and let it simmer for another brief moment until the vegetables are slightly tender. Your delicious jjageuli is ready! Enjoy it with a hot bowl of rice.
