Hearty & Easy Spam and Onion Rice Bowl Recipe
Perfect for a Quick Meal! Super Simple Spam and Onion Rice Bowl Ready in 15 Minutes
My husband loves gaming, and sometimes he eats while playing. Though it can be a bit frustrating, I often make him one-bowl meals so he can eat comfortably. And what’s the king of one-bowl meals? It has to be Spam! Let me share this easy and convenient Spam and Onion Rice Bowl recipe with you. It’s perfect for students living alone or busy office workers too.
Main Ingredients- 1.5 bowls of warm cooked rice
- 2 eggs
- 1 small can of Spam (classic)
- 1 medium onion
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the ingredients. Dice one small can of Spam into bite-sized cubes, about 1 cm. Peel the onion, halve it, and then slice it into strips about 0.5 cm thick. It’s best to slice the onion not too thinly so it doesn’t fall apart too much when stir-fried.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to pan-fry the Spam until golden brown. Without adding extra oil to the pan, place the diced Spam and cook over medium heat, turning it occasionally until all sides are golden and appetizing. The Spam will release enough of its own fat, so you can skip adding more oil. While the Spam is cooking, prepare a sunny-side-up fried egg in a separate pan. Be careful not to break the yolk, as a perfectly intact, runny yolk makes the dish look even more appealing when placed on top.
Step 3
In the same pan used for the Spam (or a clean one if preferred), add 2 Tbsp of cooking oil and stir-fry the sliced onion until it becomes translucent. Once the onion is softened, add 4 Tbsp of soy sauce, 2 Tbsp of corn syrup, and a pinch of black pepper. Stir-fry everything together until the sauce is evenly distributed and coats the onion. Be mindful not to use excessively high heat, as the soy sauce can burn. Cook over medium-low heat, allowing the sauce to gently simmer and thicken. The natural sweetness from the onion will create a delicious sauce.
Step 4
Finally, let’s assemble the rice bowl! Spoon the warm cooked rice into a bowl. Generously spread the well-stir-fried onion mixture over the rice. Arrange the golden-brown Spam cubes and the perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg on top. Finish with a light drizzle of aromatic sesame oil. Behold, your incredibly simple yet delicious Spam and Onion Rice Bowl is ready! It’s a feast for the eyes and the palate. Enjoy this satisfying and hearty meal, whether you’re my gaming husband or a busy individual yourself.
