  • Difficulty : Beginner

Main Ingredients

  • Beef for Bulgogi 400g
  • Chung Jung One Curry Queen 1 packet (or your preferred curry powder)
  • Chicken stock 1 Tbsp (or kelp broth)
  • 1 Onion (medium size)
  • 1 piece of Butter (approx. 10g)
  • 100g Minced Garlic (approx. 4-5 Tbsp)
  • A little Green Onion (for garnish)
  • Store-bought Udon Noodles 3 servings

Beef Bulgogi Marinade

  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Green Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Mirin (cooking wine)
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, lightly pat dry the beef for bulgogi with paper towels to remove excess blood. In a bowl, combine the beef with all the ‘Beef Bulgogi Marinade’ ingredients and gently mix. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes. Slice the onion into large pieces. Finely chop the green onion for garnish.

Step 1

Step 2

In a wide pot or deep pan, melt a piece of butter over medium-low heat. Once the butter is melted, add the sliced onions and minced garlic. Sauté until the onions become translucent and fragrant. Sautéing in butter enhances the flavor significantly.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the onions are tender, add the marinated beef and stir-fry quickly over high heat. Cook until the surface of the beef turns white, which is important to prevent the juices from escaping.

Step 3

Step 4

After the beef is browned on the outside, pour in 5 cups (approx. 1 liter) of water into the pot.

Step 4

Step 5

Add 1 tablespoon of chicken stock, stir well to dissolve, and bring the broth to a boil over high heat. If you don’t have chicken stock, kelp broth is also a great alternative.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the broth is vigorously boiling, sift in the curry powder (Chung Jung One Curry Queen 1 packet). Stir continuously with a whisk to ensure the curry powder dissolves completely without lumps. Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently.

Step 6

Step 7

The spiciness can vary depending on the curry powder. If you need to adjust the heat, add the spicy packet included with the curry powder according to your preference. Alternatively, you can add a bit of Cheongyang chili pepper at the end.

Step 7

Step 8

In a separate pot, bring a generous amount of water to a rolling boil. Once the water is boiling, add the 3 servings of store-bought udon noodles and cook according to the package instructions, usually about 2-3 minutes.

Step 8

Step 9

Immediately after cooking, rinse the udon noodles under cold running water. Rinsing in cold water washes away excess starch, resulting in a chewier and bouncier texture. Drain the noodles well.
